Solution of XXZ and XYZ spin chains with boundaries by separation of variables

2014

In this thesis we give accounts on the solution of the open XXZ and XYZ quantum spin-1/2 chains with the most generic integrable boundary terms. By using the the Separation of Variables method (SoV), due to Sklyanin, we are able, in the inhomogeneous case, to build the complete set of eigenstates and the associated eigenvalues. The characterization of these quantities is made through a maximal system of N quadratic equations, where N is the size of the chain. Different methods, like the Algebraic Bethe ansatz (ABA) or other generalized Bethe ansatz techniques, have been used, in the past, in order to tackle these problems. None of them resulted effective in the reproduction of the full set …

One-dimensional random walks with self-blocking immigration

2017

We consider a system of independent one-dimensional random walkers where new particles are added at the origin at fixed rate whenever there is no older particle present at the origin. A Poisson ansatz leads to a semi-linear lattice heat equation and predicts that starting from the empty configuration the total number of particles grows as $c \sqrt{t} \log t$. We confirm this prediction and also describe the asymptotic macroscopic profile of the particle configuration.

A form factor approach to the asymptotic behavior of correlation functions in critical models

2011

We propose a form factor approach for the computation of the large distance asymptotic behavior of correlation functions in quantum critical (integrable) models. In the large distance regime we reduce the summation over all excited states to one over the particle/hole excitations lying on the Fermi surface in the thermodynamic limit. We compute these sums, over the so-called critical form factors, exactly. Thus we obtain the leading large distance behavior of each oscillating harmonic of the correlation function asymptotic expansion, including the corresponding amplitudes. Our method is applicable to a wide variety of integrable models and yields precisely the results stemming from the Lutt…

Partition function of the trigonometric SOS model with reflecting end

2010

We compute the partition function of the trigonometric SOS model with one reflecting end and domain wall type boundary conditions. We show that in this case, instead of a sum of determinants obtained by Rosengren for the SOS model on a square lattice without reflection, the partition function can be represented as a single Izergin determinant. This result is crucial for the study of the Bethe vectors of the spin chains with non-diagonal boundary terms.

Open spin chains with generic integrable boundaries: Baxter equation and Bethe ansatz completeness from separation of variables

2014

28 pages; International audience; We solve the longstanding problem to define a functional characterization of the spectrum of the transfer matrix associated to the most general spin-1/2 representations of the 6-vertex reflection algebra for general inhomogeneous chains. The corresponding homogeneous limit reproduces the spectrum of the Hamiltonian of the spin-1/2 open XXZ and XXX quantum chains with the most general integrable boundaries. The spectrum is characterized by a second order finite difference functional equation of Baxter type with an inhomogeneous term which vanishes only for some special but yet interesting non-diagonal boundary conditions. This functional equation is shown to…

Parallel Calculation of CCSDT and Mk-MRCCSDT Energies.

2010

A scheme for the parallel calculation of energies at the coupled-cluster singles, doubles, and triples (CCSDT) level of theory, several approximate iterative CCSDT schemes (CCSDT-1a, CCSDT-1b, CCSDT-2, CCSDT-3, and CC3), and for the state-specific multireference coupled-cluster ansatz suggested by Mukherjee with a full treatment of triple excitations (Mk-MRCCSDT) is presented. The proposed scheme is based on the adaptation of a highly efficient serial coupled-cluster code leading to a communication-minimized implementation by parallelizing the time-determining steps. The parallel algorithm is tailored for affordable cluster architectures connected by standard communication networks such as …

Attitudes towards the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership in the European Union: The treaty partner heuristic and issue attention

2018

Why has the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partisanship met with strong public resistance among some Europeans and in some European Union member states, but not in others? This article argues that one important perspective to explain the pattern of support for TTIP is the role of heuristic opinion formation and issue attention. Analysing multiple waves of Eurobarometer data, I find that views of the two treaty partners, the US and the European Union, shape attitudes towards TTIP and that the largely post-materialist concerns over TTIP resonated specifically in those European countries whose citizens’ attention was less focused on economic issues. In showing how opinions towards concret…

A gauge-technique Ansatz for the three gluon vertex of the background field method

2011

The vertex connecting one background gluon with two quantum ones constitutes a central ingredient in the gauge-invariant Schwinger-Dyson equation that determines the non-perturbative dynamics of the gluon propagator. This vertex satisfies a Ward identity with respect to the background gluon, and a Slavnov-Taylor identity with respect to the two quantum gluons. We present a complete Ansatz for this vertex, which satisfies both aforementioned identities. This entire construction depends crucially on a set of constraints relating the various form-factors of the ghost Green's functions appearing in the Slavnov-Taylor identity satisfied by the vertex. The validity of these constraints is demonst…
