Calixarene: A Versatile Material for Drug Design and Applications
2016
The therapy of various diseases by the drugs entrapped in calixarene derivatives is gaining attraction of researchers nowadays. Calixarenes are macrocyclic nano-baskets which belong to cavitands class of host-guest chemistry. They are the marvelous hosts with distinct hydrophobic three dimensional cavities to entrap and encapsulate biologically active guest drugs. Calixarene and its derivatives develop inclusion complexes with various types of drugs and vitamins for their sustained/targeted release. Calixarene and its derivatives are used as carriers for anti-cancer, anti-convulsant, anti-hypertensive, anthelmentic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antipsychotic drugs. They are the impo…
First Results of the Eastern Ḫabur Archaeological Survey in the Dohuk Region of Iraqi Kurdistan. The Season of 2013
2015
The University of Tübingen began an archaeological survey in the westernmost part of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region of Iraq, in the province of Dohuk, in 2013. The survey area covers highly diverse ecological zones from the Tigris across the East-Tigridian plain to the high Zagros ranges along the border with Turkey. Historically, the region witnessed the expansion of Mesopotamian states since the 3rd mill. BC and was a border region between Assyria and Urartu in the 1st mill. BC.

Suppressive Efficacy by a Commercially Available Blue Lens on PPR in 610 Photosensitive Epilepsy Patients
2006
Purpose Photosensitivity can represent a serious problem in epilepsy patients, also because pharmacologic treatment is often ineffective. Nonpharmacologic treatment using blue sunglasses is effective and safe in controlling photosensitivity, but large series of patients have never been studied. Methods This multicenter study was conducted in 12 epilepsy centers in northern, central, southern, and insular Italy. A commercially available lens, named Z1, obtained in a previous trial, was used to test consecutively enrolled pediatric and adult epilepsy patients with photosensitivity. Only type 4 photosensitivity (photoparoxysmal response, PPR) was considered in the study. A standardized method …
The role of prognostic stratification on prescription of anticoagulants in older patients with atrial fibrillation : a multicenter, observational, pr…
2022
Background: Literature suggests that different risks of mortality could influence physicians in prescribing or not anticoagulants in older patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The Multidimensional Prognostic Index (MPI) can be considered a tool for the detection of multidimensional frailty. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate whether prescription patterns of oral anticoagulants exist, based on MPI values. Methods: Older hospitalised patients (age >= 65 years) with non-valvular AF were included across 24 European centres. MPI was calculated using validated and standardised tools derived from a comprehensive geriatric assessment. Other functional and clinical information …
The ´champagne-cup` period at Carchemish. A review of the Early Bronze Age levels on the Acropolis Mound and the problem of the Inner Town.
2007
The pioneer excavations conducted by the British Museum expedition at the famous site of Carchemish in the 1910’s brought to light a large number of buildings, sculptures and inscriptions which provide an outline of the urban layout of the Iron Age city and its monuments. While many scholars have often attempted to re-examine the epigraphic material as well as the style and chronology of the major works of this period in order to set them in a proper historical context, much less attention has been paid to the earlier levels mainly uncovered on the Acropolis mound, ranging from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age. This paper discusses the archaeological evidence available and attempted to recon…
More firms, more competition? The case of the fourth operator in France's mobile phone market
2010
Accepted, Forthcoming; International audience; To foster competition the French government authorized a fourth operator, ‘Free', to enter the country's mobile phone market at the end of 2009 alongside Orange, SFR and Bouygues Telecom (BT), who held respectively one-half, one-third and one-sixth of the market. By using a stylized model of France's phone market, we have examined what we call the regulator's nightmares and dreams. If Cournot competition is in place before Free's entry, minimizing the total profit fails to maximize the consumer surplus and the total surplus; the maximum most realistic price fall is 6.7% compared to three-way competition and could be 1.7% only; if Orange, SFR an…
Natura in breve: quando un tema vasto e complesso incontra i canoni epigrammatici
2014
This article takes as its starting point a series of remarks on the volume F. Garambois-Vasquez, D. Vallat (eds.), Le lierre et la statue. La nature et son espace littéraire dans l’épigramme gréco-latine tardive, Lyon 2013. In particular it considers the inherent difficulty in defining nature as a theme, but also a number of further issues, such as the way in which Greek and Latin epigrammatists used and adapted nature, relative to the standards of the genre in which they worked. The conclusion is reached that nature is one of the prisms by which the genre of epigram may be reconsidered, from its earliest origins through the late antiquity.
