Anti-adrenergic effects of ranolazine in isolated rat aorta

Ranolazine, a piperazine derivative, is used as an anti- anginal drug to treat patients with chronic angina in clinical practice [1] and may improve coronary blood flow by reducing compression effects of ischemic contracture, and by improving endothelial function [2],[3]. In the present study we investigate the vascular effects of ranolazine on the endothelium, adrenergic system and Ca2+ in isolated rat aorta.

Sirenomelia, case report and review of the literature.

We present a case of sirenomelia diagnosed in the first trimester of pregnancy. The ultrasound examination showed fused lower extremities and an anechoic structure in the lower abdomen that is clue in the early diagnosis. The postmortem study showed the existence of a single umbilical artery (vitelline artery), with an origin in the abdominal aorta. This finding not only explained the presence of a vascular steal with subsequent underdeveloped of pelvic organs, but also differentiated this condition from caudal regression syndrome.

To study the ability of long-chain trans fatty acids (FA) to be incorporated and metabolized into endothelial cells, bovine aortic endothelial cells were incubated with medium enriched eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) bound to albumin (M2) or one of its geometrical isomers: 20:5 5c,8c,11t,14c,17c (M3), 20:5 5c,8c,11c,14c,17t (M4), or 20:5 5c,8c,11t,14c,17t (M5). After 48 h of incubation, supernatant and cells were harvested and their lipids were analyzed, including prostacyclin synthesis. We present some preliminary results of the numerical simulations of the hydrodynamic characteristics of an abdominal aorta aneurysm (AAA) patient specific test case. Images of the AAA lumen have been acquired in 10 discrete time-steps through a stabilized cardiac cycle by electrocardiogram-gated computer tomography angiography, and are used to approximate the in vivo, time dependent kinematic fields of the (internal) arterial wall. The flow field is simulated by a Smoothed Particle SPH numerical model, where the kinematics of the boundary of the computational domain (the internal aortic vessel) is the one computed by the above procedure. Anti-angiogenic drug loaded liposomes: Nanotherapy for early atherosclerotic lesions in mice.
