Impact of Thoracic Endografting on the Hemodynamics of the Native Aorta: Pre- and Postoperative Assessments of Wall Shear Stress and Vorticity Using …
2021
Purpose To quantify the hemodynamic consequences of thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) by comparing the preoperative and postoperative wall shear stress (WSS) and vorticity profiles on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. Materials and Methods The pre- and postoperative computed tomography (CT) scans from 20 consecutive patients (median age 69 years, range 20–87) treated for different thoracic aortic pathologies (11 aneurysms, 5 false aneurysms, 3 penetrating ulcers, and 1 traumatic aortic rupture) were segmented to construct patient-specific CFD models using a meshless code. The simulations were run over the cardiac cycle, and the WSS and vorticity values measured at th…
Minilaparoscopic aortic lymphadenectomy.
2015
Abstract Study Objective To show the feasibility of performing aortic lymphadenectomy with 3-mm instruments in gynecologic malignancies. Patient A 43-year-old, multiparous patient with serous ovarian cancer grading 2, Federation Internationale de Gynecologie et d'Obstetrique stage IC (intraoperative spillage). Intervention The patient was accidentally diagnosed with ovarian cancer after a right adnexectomy performed for an ovarian cyst. Once referred to our center, a delayed surgical staging was planned including total hysterectomy, left adnexectomy, aortic and pelvic lymphadenectomy, peritoneal biopsies, and total omentectomy. Minilaparoscopy was believed to be feasible to achieve it. Meas…
The impact of del Nido cardioplegia solution on blood morphology parameters
2021
Background: Crystalloid cardioplegic solutions are believed to reduce hemoglobin significantly and increase the transfusion rate. However, recent reports indicate that the del Nido cardioplegia may preserve blood morphology parameters. Methods: In “The del Nido versus cold blood cardioplegia in aortic valve Replacement” trial patients undergoing aortic valve replacement were randomized into the del Nido (DN) or cold blood cardioplegia (CB) group. For the subanalysis, patients who underwent blood transfusions were excluded from the study. Red blood cell (RBC) count, hemoglobin, white blood cell (WBC) count and platelet (PLT) count were measured before the surgery, 24-, 48-, and 96 hours post…

Inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm (IAAA).
2010
Purpose: The aim of this study is to report our experience about the inflammatory abdominal aortic aneurysm (IAAA). Methods: Between January 1999 and January 2008 we treated 8 cases of IAAA. Two patients underwent surgery in emergency. The preoperative diagnostic procedures were ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT) and intravenous urography (IVU). In 6 elective patients the diagnosis of IAAA was obtained preoperatively. In one case a left hydroureteronephrosis was demonstrated by intravenous urography (IVU). All patients underwent open surgery with midline incision and transperitoneal access. Results: No 30-days mortality occurred. A case of pancreatitis was treated with conservative t…
Abdominal Computed Tomography Angiography at 80kV: feasibility study.
2014
preliminary evaluation of different dose reduction algorithms in abdominal Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) with standard scan protocols at 120kV vs. 80kV.prospective, randomized, crossover study. 60 consecutive patients who underwent CTA of the abdomen (Sensation 64, Siemens; Iomeprol 400 mgl/ml Bracco) for suspected or diagnosed Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) were enrolled in the study. A standard 120kV/200mAs scan protocol was acquired in all patients (reference tube current modulated with Automatic Exposure Control). In each patient a second scan with 80kV/300mAs (Group 1; n. 20), 80kV/400mAs (Group 2; n. 20), 80kV/500mAs (Group 3; n. 20) was acquired. We used the same scan/recons…
Endovascular treatment of abdominal aortic anastomotic pseudoaneurysm. The experience of two centers.
2012
INTRODUCTION: Abdominal aortic pseudoaneurysms are a rare but serious complication of aortic surgery. Treatment with traditional open surgery is associated with a high rate of perioperative mortality and morbidity. Endovascular treatment is less invasive and guarantees lower mortality and morbidity rates. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of short-, medium- and long-term endovascular treatment of these pseudoaneurysms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Over the past 10 years, 14 patients with abdominal aortic aneurysms, which developed after prior aortic surgery, underwent endovascular treatment involving implantation of an endoprosthesis at our institutions. Exclusion criteria were emerg…

RETRACTED ARTICLE: Hemodynamics, intra-mucosal pH and regulators of circulation during perioperative epidural analgesia
2000
