[Early duodenal adenocarcinoma arising in gastric metaplasia treated by endoscopic resection].

2006

The use of isolated caecal bowel segment in complicated vaginal reconstruction

2001

Objective To report a one-stage procedure, using a segment of caecum, both to overcome failed previous procedures and for primary vaginal replacement in patients with congenital vaginal aplasia, where primary reconstruction often results in vaginal obstruction and fistula formation. Patients and methods The vagina was reconstructed using a 15-cm isolated caecal segment placed between the bladder and rectum and anastomosed to the introitus. Between 1985 and 1997 the technique was used in 17 patients (mean age 23 years). Indications included congenital malformations and vaginal loss through anterior exenteration or trauma. Seven of the 17 patients had undergone previous complex reconstruction…

Single and Synergistic Effects of Type 2 Cytokines on Eosinophils and Asthma Hallmarks

2020

Abstract The type 2 cytokines IL-5, IL-13, and IL-4 play an important role in the induction and progression of asthma. According to the Global Initiative for Asthma guidelines, blood eosinophil numbers are one marker that helps to guide treatment decisions in patients suffering from severe forms of asthma. Effects of type 2 cytokines were analyzed, alone or in combination, on eosinophils in blood and other compartments and on the development of asthma symptoms. C57BL/6 mice received a single intranasal application of equimolar amounts of IL-5, IL-13, and IL-4, alone or in combination. Numbers, activation state, and migratory behavior of eosinophils in bone marrow (BM), blood, lung, and bron…

Predictive value of p53, Ki67 and TLR5 in neoplastic progression of Barrett’s esophagus: a matched case–control study

2022

Abstract Barrett’s esophagus progresses to high-grade dysplasia or cancer along the well-established metaplasia-dysplasia-adenocarcinoma sequence. The aim of this study was to evaluate the value of p53, Ki67, and toll-like receptor 5 (TLR5) in prediction of malignant progression of Barrett’s metaplasia and low-grade dysplasia. This was a retrospective matched case–control study based on Northern and Central Finland population. Patients diagnosed with esophageal high-grade dysplasia or adenocarcinoma were included. From these patients, all previous endoscopy samples were obtained along with original diagnostic HE-slides and clinical data. Age- and sex-matched patients with non-progressing Ba…

Lesioni cutanee stellate e simmetriche in un gemello “rimasto solo”

2021

The incidence of multiple pregnancy has increased, particularly because of the advances in assisted reproductive technologies. Multiple gestations are high risk pregnancies, especially the monochorionic ones. Two/thirds of initially twin pregnancies result in singles at birth, a condition defined as vanishing twin syndrome. The intrauterine death of one of the twins can cause direct fetal damage to the surviving one on several levels. The paper describes the case of a child born from twin pregnancy that was interrupted for one of the co-twins at early second trimester of gestation who presented with aplasia cutis congenita.

Sialometaplasia Necrotizante: Presentación de cinco casos clínicos

2004
