A Constructive Arboricity Approximation Scheme

2020

The arboricity \(\varGamma \) of a graph is the minimum number of forests its edge set can be partitioned into. Previous approximation schemes were nonconstructive, i.e., they approximate the arboricity as a value without computing a corresponding forest partition. This is because they operate on pseudoforest partitions or the dual problem of finding dense subgraphs.

A New Approach to Deriving Interatomic Many-Body Interactions in Metals

1998

An original method of treating the kinetic and exchange-correlation en- ergies functionals in terms of many particle interactions was developed. It is based on utilizing the local density approximation. The total electron density, extracted from the ab initio . band structure calculations, is expressed as a lin- ear superposition of contributions from the individual pseudoions embedded in the uniform background. The explicit expressions for the pair and triplet potentials are presented. The general form for the part of the pair interatomic interactions caused by the kinetic and. the exchange-correlation effects is ob- tained. Relationship between the developing approach and the perturbation…

Small-sample characterization of stochastic approximation staircases in forced-choice adaptive threshold estimation

2007

Despite the widespread use of up—down staircases in adaptive threshold estimation, their efficiency and usability in forced-choice experiments has been recently debated. In this study, simulation techniques were used to determine the small-sample convergence properties of stochastic approximation (SA) staircases as a function of several experimental parameters. We found that satisfying some general requirements (use of the accelerated SA algorithm, clear suprathreshold initial stimulus intensity, large initial step size) the convergence was accurate independently of the spread of the underlying psychometric function. SA staircases were also reliable for targeting percent-correct levels far …

An Improved Iterative Nonlinear Least Square Approximation Method for the Design of SISO Wideband Mobile Radio Channel Simulators

2012

In this paper, we present an improved version of the iterative nonlinear least square approximation (INLSA) method for designing measurement-based single-input single-output (SISO) wideband channel simulators. The proposed method aims to fit the time-frequency correlation function (TFCF) of the simulation model to that of a measured channel. The parameters of the simulation model are determined iteratively by minimizing the Frobenius norm, which serves as a measure for the fitting error. In contrast to the original INLSA method, the proposed approach provides a unique optimized set of model parameters, which guarantees a quasi-perfect fitting with respect to the TFCF. We analyze the perform…

HOLOMORPHIC SUPERPOSITION OPERATORS BETWEEN BANACH FUNCTION SPACES

2013

AbstractWe prove that for a large class of Banach function spaces continuity and holomorphy of superposition operators are equivalent and that bounded superposition operators are continuous. We also use techniques from infinite dimensional holomorphy to establish the boundedness of certain superposition operators. Finally, we apply our results to the study of superposition operators on weighted spaces of holomorphic functions and the$F(p, \alpha , \beta )$spaces of Zhao. Some independent properties on these spaces are also obtained.

Intrinsic characterizations of perturbation classes on some Banach spaces

2010

We investigate relationships between inessential operators and improjective operators acting between Banach spaces X and Y, emphasizing the case in which one of the spaces is a C(K) space. We show that they coincide in many cases, but they are different in the case X=Y =C(K 0), where K 0 is a compact space constructed by Koszmider. Bing meets Sobolev

2019

We show that, for each $1\le p < 2$, there exists a wild involution $\mathbb S^3\to \mathbb S^3$ in the Sobolev class $W^{1,p}(\mathbb S^3,\mathbb S^3)$.

On a theorem of Sobczyk

1991

In this paper the result of Sobczyk about complemented copies of c0 is extended to a class of Banach spaces X such that the unit ball of their dual endowed with the weak* topology has a certain topological property satisfied by every Corson-compact space. By means of a simple example it is shown that if Corson-compact is replaced by Rosenthal-compact, this extension does not hold. This example gives an easy proof of a result of Phillips and an easy solution to a question of Sobczyk about the existence of a Banach space E, c0 ⊂ E ⊂ l∞, such that E is not complemented in l∞ and c0 is not complemented in E. Assuming the continuum hypothesis, it is proved that there exists a Rosenthal-compact s…
