Abstract The deposition of oxygen-defective ZnO films exhibiting varied nanostructures via Solution Precursor Plasma Spray (SPPS) route, a one-step, minute-scaled duration and large scale method, is reported. The in situ formation of oxygen vacancies in ZnO films was confirmed by UV–Visible, Raman and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and the as-prepared samples exhibit a bandgap as low as 3.02 eV. Density functional theory (DFT) simulation demonstrates that the polarization of ZnO is enhanced by the created oxygen vacancies, leading to substantially improved photocatalytic activity. Attractive ion-ion correlation forces and the dielectric approximation.

We analyze the classical problem of the interaction between two charged surfaces separated by a solution containing neutralizing counter-ions. The focus is on obtaining a description where the solvent is treated explicitly rather than through a dielectric approximation as is conventionally done. We summarize the results of three papers where we have used a Stockmayer fluid model in Monte Carlo simulations. It is shown that the attractive ion-ion correlation mechanism is also operating when the solvent is described explicitly. A general systematic approach is proposed for the numerical calculation of multi-equilibrium problems. The approach involves several steps: (i) the establishment of balances involving the chemical species in solution (e.g., mass balances, charge balance, and stoichiometric balance for the reaction products), (ii) the selection of the unknowns (the concentration of selected chemical species at equilibrium), (iii) the estimation of the concentration of the other species based on the selected species and the equilibrium expressions, and (iv) the minimization of the sum of the squared balances (search of the optimal combination of the unknowns). Abstract Aqueous NaOH with ethanol (strong) etchant is widely used. It shortens etching time effectively compared to normal etching conditions (6.25N NaOH at 70 °C). Two equations have been proposed to calculate the etching time with NaOH molarity and ethanol volume. Another two empirical equations were introduced for estimating the bulk etch rates of PADC etched in strong etchant. Abstract Intense beams of highly charged metal ions (e.g., 80 μA for Fe13+) are successfully extracted from the 18 GHz ECR Ion Source at RIKEN by feeding vapors of organic metal compounds at room temperature into the ECR plasma chamber: by MIVOC method. The beam intensity of particular metal ion is strongly dependent on the microwave power and served compounds.

Metal ions essential for plant growth, such as Fe, Mn, Ni, Cu or Zn, are taken up by plants from the soil solution through metal transporters at the plasma membrane, mainly of the ZIP and Nramp families. These transport systems, however, can also give entry to other metals (Al, Cd, Hg, Pb). The aminomethylenebisphosphonates are known to be excellent chelators for many metal ions. In this work, the coordination properties of three different aminomethylenebisphosphonates with N-substituted heteroalkyl moieties (L1, L2 and L3) and their N-pyridyl derivative (L4) toward cadmium(II) ions are described. Due to their coordination abilities over a broad range of pH, the compounds of this group are good candidates for heavy metal detoxification.
