Channel flow at an immobilised liquid|liquid interface
2000
A novel rectangular channel flow electrochemical cell for the study of liquid | liquid interfaces is presented. The organic phase is immobilised by the use of a gelling agent, while the aqueous phase flows past the interface. This creates an asymmetric setup that allows us to establish diagnostic criteria to determine, for example, the direction of the ion transfer. The effects of varying flow rate and sweep rate have been considered both theoretically and experimentally. By comparison with two-dimensional simulations, it is demonstrated that a simple one-dimensional theory can be used to describe the cyclic voltammetry response of the channel flow cell.
Comparison of different removal techniques for selected pharmaceuticals
2015
[EN] Recently, there is an emergence of endocrine-disrupting compounds, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products (EDC/PPCPs) as important pollutants to remove from drinking water and reclaimed wastewater. In this work, the efficiency of removing pharmaceuticals (PCs) from model aqueous solutions and raw wastewater with ultrafiltration (UF), nanofiltration (NF), activated carbon adsorption (AC), biological methods (SBR) and oxidation with ClO2 was investigated. Some treatments have also been used as combined processes: UF + NF, UF +AC, SBR + ClO2. Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, Diclofenac, Sulfamethoxazole, Clonazepam, and Diazepam were selected as model compounds. In order to evaluate their r…
Spectrophotometric determination of adrenaline with an oxidative column in a FIA assembly
1990
Abstract A single channel FIA assembly is proposed for the spectrophotometric determination of adrenaline, the aqueous sample solution is directly injected into the carrier stream leading the sample through a manganese dioxide column at 80°C, and on to the spectrophotometer flow-cell. The calibration graph is linear up to 17 ppm of adrenaline. The influence of other substances has been studied and the method has been applied to the determination of adrenaline in a pharmaceutical formulation.
HYDRO-ORGANIC AND MICELLAR-ORGANIC REVERSED-PHASE LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHIC PROCEDURES FOR THE EVALUATION OF SULPHONAMIDES IN PHARMACEUTICALS
2001
Two reversed-phase liquid chromatographic procedures were developed for the analysis of ten pharmaceutical formulations used in medicine and veterinary, which contained one of the following sulphonamides: sulphacetamide, sulphadiazine, sulphaguanidine, sulphamethazine, sulphamethizole, sulphamethoxazole, or sulphathiazole. In both chromatographic modes, the same C18 column was utilized and the mobile phase contained a low amount of acetonitrile and citric buffer at pH 3.0. In one of the procedures, the surfactant sodium dodecyl sul phate was added to the mobile phase. The presence of micelles allowed a decrease in the amount of organic solvent from 11% to 6%, and facilitated sample dissolut…
Processing of Generator-Produced 68Ga for Medical Application
2007
The (68)Ge/(68)Ga generator provides an excellent source of positron-emitting (68)Ga. However, newly available "ionic" (68)Ge/(68)Ga radionuclide generators are not necessarily optimized for the synthesis of (68)Ga-labeled radiopharmaceuticals. The eluates have rather large volumes, a high concentration of H(+) (pH of 1), a breakthrough of (68)Ge, increasing with time or frequency of use, and impurities such as stable Zn(II) generated by the decay of (68)Ga, Ti(IV) as a constituent of the column material, and Fe(III) as a general impurity. We have developed an efficient route for the processing of generator-derived (68)Ga eluates, including the labeling and purification of biomolecules. Prec…
Volumes and compressibilities of pentanol in aqueous dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide solutions at 15, 25 and 35°C
1990
Ultrasonic velocities and densities of the water-dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)-pentanol (PentOH) ternary system were measured at 15, 25 and 35°C as a function of the surfactant and alcohol concentrations. The apparent molar volumes and isentropic compressibilities of PentOH were calculated. The standard partial molar volumes increase with surfactant concentration continuously whereas the standard partial molar isentropic compressibilities show sharp changes in slope at about 0.25 mol-kg−1 DTAB, which can be ascribed to a micellar structural transition. The volume data for alcohol in micellar solutions were treated by a model reported for the distribution of polar additives between…
Influence of template basicity and hydrophobicity on the molecular recognition properties of molecularly imprinted polymers
1996
Abstract Triazine herbicides were used as model templates for a basic study of the molecular recognition process in imprinted polymers. Five structurally related triazine herbicides (atrazine, ametryn, cyanazine, prometryn and terbutylazine) that differ in basicity and hydrophobicity were imprinted. Chromatographic evaluation of the resulting materials in an aqueous-poor mobile phase showed that the selectivity for the template increased with its Bronsted basicity whereas it did not correlate with template hydrophobicity. Thus, the highest and lowest affinity and selectivity for the template was observed using the ametryn-imprinted (p K a =4.1) and the cyanazine-imprinted polymers (p K a =1…
Analysis of pyridoquinoline derivatives by liquid chromatography/atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry
2001
A method using liquid chromatography/atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (LC/APCI-MS) has been developed for the characterization and determination of pyridoquinoline derivatives 4,6-bis(dimethylaminoethylamino)-2,8,10-trimethylpyrido[3,2-g]quinoline, 4,6-bis(dimethylaminoethoxy)-2,8,10-trimethylpyrido[3,2-g]quinoline and 4,6-bis[(dimethylaminoethyl)thio]-2,8,10-trimethylpyrido[3,2-g] quinoline, all with potential antitumor properties. LC separation was performed on a conventional C18 column using a binary mobile phase composed of acetonitrile and 50 mM aqueous ammonium formate at pH 3. The APCI mass spectra obtained showed that proton addition giving [M + H]+ was the…
Interaction of polyelectrolytes with oppositely charged micelles studied by fluorescence and liquid chromatography
2005
It is studied by spectrofluorimetry the association of ionized cationic micelles (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, CTAB) with oppositely charged polyelectrolyte [sodium poly(styrenesulfonate), PSSNa]. CTAB provokes a change in the fluorescence intensity emitted by PSSNa. The investigated surfactants form micelle-like aggregates before critical micellar concentration (CMC). Two approaches (binding and partition equilibrium) are used to obtain the association constant, KA, number of CTAB molecules in a binding site, N, and apparent partition coefficient, Γ. Analysis of the parameters as a function of polymer concentration and ionic strength μ is performed. The effect of μ shows an enhancement …
