Current state of genomic policies in healthcare among EU member states: results of a survey of chief medical officers

Abstract Background A need for a governance of genomics in healthcare among European Union (EU) countries arose during an international meeting of experts on public health genomics (PHG). We have conducted a survey on existing national genomic policies in healthcare among Chief Medical Officers (CMOs) of the 28 EU member states, plus Norway. Methods A questionnaire was sent to CMOs after a meeting on the policy implications of PHG held during the Italian presidency of the Council of EU in 2014. The survey was closed in November 2015. Results from the first gating proficiency panel of intracellular cytokine staining (ICS) highlighted the value of using a consensus gating approach to reduce the variability across laboratories in reported %CD8+ or %CD4+ cytokine-positive cells. Based on the data analysis from the first proficiency panel, harmonization guidelines for a consensus gating protocol were proposed. To validate the recommendations from the first panel and to examine factors that were not included in the first panel, a second ICS gating proficiency panel was organized. Significant progress in nonlinear and ultrafast optics has recently opened new and exciting opportunities for terahertz (THz) science and technology, which require the development of reliable THz sources, detectors, and supporting devices. In this work, we demonstrate the first solid-state technique for the coherent detection of ultra-broadband THz pulses (0.1–10 THz), relying on the electric-field-induced second-harmonic generation in a thin layer of ultraviolet fused silica. The non-symmetrized hyperspherical harmonics method for a three-body system, composed by two particles having equal masses, but different from the mass of the third particle, is reviewed and applied to the $^3$H, $^3$He nuclei and $^3_{\Lambda}$H hyper-nucleus, seen respectively as $nnp$, $ppn$ and $NN\Lambda$ three-body systems. The convergence of the method is first tested in order to estimate its accuracy. L’harmonia vocàlica del valencià és un fenomen pel qual la vocal àtona final a s’assimila a les vocals mitjanes tòniques [ɛ] i [ɔ] precedents (cf. terra [ˈtɛrɛ], cosa [ˈkɔzɔ]). Una de les assumpcions de la bibliografia és que aquesta assimilació s’associa amb l’especial obertura de les vocals mitjanes obertes en valencià. En la bibliografía se considera que la armonía vocálica surge generalmente como una fonologización de un proceso previo de coarticulación parcial entre vocales. El objetivo de este estudio es presentar dos variedades del valenciano septentrional que corresponderían a los dos estadios en la consolidación de la armonía. Por una parte, la variedad de Nules, que presenta en general elevados índices de coarticulación entre una vocal labial tónica /ɔ/ y una vocal baja postónica, pero que solo presenta igualación total de los rasgos en un contexto especialmente asimétrico: cuando la vocal baja aparece en posición postónica interna.
