Consistent isotopic differences between Schistocephalus spp. parasites and their stickleback hosts

Comparison of rainfall structures between NCEP/NCAR reanalyses and observed data over tropical Africa

A comparison is made between modelled (NCEP/NCAR reanalysis) and observed (CRC and CRU dataset) annual and monthly precipitation over tropical Africa during the period 1958–1997. The split moving-windows dissimilarity analysis (SMWDA) is used to locate abrupt changes in rainfall time series. In the NCEP reanalysis data, we identify a main abrupt shift, which occurs in 1967 and concerns more than 50% of grid points. In the observation, this shift is only found over parts of tropical North Africa. Three other NCEP abrupt shifts (1975, 1983 and 1987) in the reanalysis shown by the SMWDA, each concerning about 20% of tropical Africa, are not identified in the observation. Olive yield as a function of soil moisture dynamics

This study introduces a water-driven crop model aiming to quantitatively link olive yield to climate and soil moisture dynamics using an ecohydrological approach. A mathematical model describing soil moisture, evapotranspiration and assimilation dynamics of olive orchards is developed here. The model is able to explicitly reproduce two different hydroclimatic phases in Mediterranean areas: the well-watered conditions in which evapotranspiration and assimilation assume their maximum values and the real conditions where the limitations induced by soil moisture availability are taken into account. Nationalité et citoyenneté sont deux notions souvent confondues au XIXe siècle, en raison de l'utilisation du mot « citoyen » indifféremment pour désigner l'homme de la cité, le national ou le titulaire des droits politiques. Cette confusion se retrouve en particulier dans les textes régissant les statuts des habitants des colonies ; or, c'est par leur élaboration que s'est opérée la distinction : les colonisés sont des nationaux, mais tous ne sont pas citoyens.
