On the use of asymptotic expansion in computing the null distribution of page's L-statistic

1989

Suppose that each out of n randomized complete blocks is obtained by observing a jointly continuous random variable taking values in Rk. Page's L-statistic is given then as a sum of i.i.d. lattice variables with finite moments of any order. Applying a well-known theorem on asymptotic expansions for the distribution function of such a sum yields higher order approximations to the significance probability of any observed value of L. The formula obtained by discarding terms smaller than o(n –1) is still very simple to use. Yet, due to it's strong analytical basis, it can be expected to provide substantial improvement on the traditional normal approximation. The results of extensive numerical i…

A form factor approach to the asymptotic behavior of correlation functions in critical models

2011

We propose a form factor approach for the computation of the large distance asymptotic behavior of correlation functions in quantum critical (integrable) models. In the large distance regime we reduce the summation over all excited states to one over the particle/hole excitations lying on the Fermi surface in the thermodynamic limit. We compute these sums, over the so-called critical form factors, exactly. Thus we obtain the leading large distance behavior of each oscillating harmonic of the correlation function asymptotic expansion, including the corresponding amplitudes. Our method is applicable to a wide variety of integrable models and yields precisely the results stemming from the Lutt…

ASYMPTOTIC CURVES ON SURFACES IN ℝ5

2008

We study asymptotic curves on generically immersed surfaces in ℝ5. We characterize asymptotic directions via the contact of the surface with flat objects (k-planes, k = 1 - 4), give the equation of the asymptotic curves in terms of the coefficients of the second fundamental form and study their generic local configurations.

Unfolding of saddle-nodes and their Dulac time

2016

Altres ajuts: UNAB10-4E-378, co-funded by ERDF "A way to build Europe" and by the French ANR-11-BS01-0009 STAAVF. In this paper we study unfoldings of saddle-nodes and their Dulac time. By unfolding a saddle-node, saddles and nodes appear. In the first result (Theorem A) we give a uniform asymptotic expansion of the trajectories arriving at the node. Uniformity is with respect to all parameters including the unfolding parameter bringing the node to a saddle-node and a parameter belonging to a space of functions. In the second part, we apply this first result for proving a regularity result (Theorem B) on the Dulac time (time of Dulac map) of an unfolding of a saddle-node. This result is a b…

Pants complex, TQFT and hyperbolic geometry

2021

We present a coarse perspective on relations of the $SU(2)$-Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev TQFT, the Weil-Petersson geometry of the Teichm\"uller space, and volumes of hyperbolic 3-manifolds. Using data from the asymptotic expansions of the curve operators in the skein theoretic version of the $SU(2)$-TQFT, as developed by Blanchet, Habegger, Masbaum and Vogel, we define the quantum intersection number between pants decompositions of a closed surface. We show that the quantum intersection number admits two sided bounds in terms of the geometric intersection number and we use it to obtain a metric on the pants graph of surfaces. Using work of Brock we show that the pants graph equipped with this …

Asymptotic expansions and causal representations through the loop-tree duality

2022

Large-scale particle physics experiments have provided a vast amount of high-quality data during the last decades. A leading role has been played by the Large Hadron Collider where the evaluation and analysis of its second run is currently still in progress while the third run is about to start, promising ever higher precision data of particle collisions and subsequent decays. The agreement between experimental observations and theoretical predictions using the Standard Model of Particle Physics is excellent. Indeed, this is a problem since there are currently few clues for how genuine shortcomings of the model can be overcome. New physics phenomena can appear either at higher energies, whi…

Global representation and multiscale expansion for the Dirichlet problem in a domain with a small hole close to the boundary

2019

For each pair (Formula presented.) of positive parameters, we define a perforated domain (Formula presented.) by making a small hole of size (Formula presented.) in an open regular subset (Formula presented.) of (Formula presented.) ((Formula presented.)). The hole is situated at distance (Formula presented.) from the outer boundary (Formula presented.) of the domain. Thus, when (Formula presented.) both the size of the hole and its distance from (Formula presented.) tend to zero, but the size shrinks faster than the distance. Next, we consider a Dirichlet problem for the Laplace equation in the perforated domain (Formula presented.) and we denote its solution by (Formula presented.) Our ai…
