Changes in biomechanics of skiing at maximal velocity caused by simulated 20 km skiing race using V2 skating technique

This study investigated how the fatigue caused by a 20 km simulated skating cross-country skiing race on snow affects the final spurt performance from a biomechanical perspective. Subjects performed a 100 meter maximal skiing trial before and at the end of the simulated race. Cycle characteristics, ground reaction forces from skis and poles, and muscle activity from eight muscles were recorded during each trial. Results showed that subjects were in a fatigued state after the simulated race manifested by 11.6% lower skiing speed (P < 0.01). Sports injuries in an America's Cup yachting crew: A 4-year epidemiological study covering the 2007 challenge

The aim of this study was to describe the injuries sustained by an America's Cup crew during eight preparatory competitions of the 32nd America's Cup 2007 and the Louis Vuitton Cup (from October 2004 to June 2007). The anatomical location, type of injury, and mechanism of injury were recorded. The injuries were categorized based on each sailor's position on the boat according to three intensities of physical demands. The injury rates per sailor and per 1000 h of competition were determined. In total, 90 injuries were registered. The overall incidence was 10 injuries per 1000 competition hours. VO2max Characteristics of Elite Female Soccer Players, 1989–2007

Purpose:To quantify VO2max among female competitive soccer players as a function of performance level, field position, and age. Low back pain and other overuse injuries in a group of Japanese triathletes.

OBJECTIVE: To document the incidence of low back pain and other overuse injuries in a group of triathletes, and to investigate any associations with various physical and triathlon related factors. METHODS: By means of a questionnaire, the physical characteristics, training habits, and the incidences of overuse injuries of 92 Japanese triathletes (70 males, 22 females) were documented. Muscle damage induced by stretch-shortening cycle exercise

Strenuous stretch-shortening cycle exercise was used as a model to study the leakage of proteins from skeletal muscle.The analysis included serum levels of creatine kinase (S-CK), myoglobin (S-Mb), and carbonic anhydrase (S-CA III). The effects of assisted and resisted plyometric training on jump height and sprint performance among physically active females

The aim of the present study was to compare the effects of assisted and resisted plyometric jump training on jump height, sprint performance (acceleration (0-20m), maximum speed (30-40m) and 40m sprint time) among physically active females. Fifty-six participants (age: 21.1 ± 1.7 years; body mass: 64.2 ± 7.0 kg; height: 168.0 ± 5.6 cm) were randomly allocated to either an assisted (n = 16) or resisted training group (n = 17), or a control group (n = 14). Practice and play in the development of German top-level professional football players.

This study examined the developmental sporting activities of 52 German football first Bundesliga professionals (including 18 senior national team members) and 50 fourth to sixth league amateur players. They reported their volumes of organised football practice/training, including its "microstructure" (proportions of physical conditioning, skill exercises and playing forms), non-organised leisure football play and engagement in other sports through their career, respectively.
