Allocation of actuators and sensors for coupled-adjacent-building vibration attenuation

2013

An actuator and sensor allocation approach is proposed for the design of coupled-adjacent-building vibration suppression under seismic excitation. This paper first establishes a full-order model of adjacent buildings with the location information of actuators and sensors. Then, the order of the model is reduced via modal cost analysis, by retaining the modes contributing the most. In view of the fact that the output powers of the actuators are limited, this paper brings forward a mixed H∞/GH2 control. By considering that not all the states of the system can be measured by the sensors, a dynamic output feedback controller is designed. The genetic algorithm is employed to obtain the locations…

Experimental investigation on PLC signal crossing of power transformers

2014

In this work the use of PLC in MV-LV networks is investigated, by means of experimental tests in the case of a two-ways MV/LV communication between two secondary substations. The two substations are connected by a MV overhead power line. Moreover each substation has a by-pass connection at MV bus-bars and a MV/LV power transformer. A ST7580 transceiver is used to inject the communication signal. The transceiver is embedded in a new interface device developed by the authors. In the paper the communication issues are introduced and some experimental tests are presented and discussed. Such tests have been carried out in the presence of voltage net, i.e. 24 kV, with the aim to verify the possib…

Oil filled MV/LV Power Transformer Behavior in Narrow Band Power Line Communication Systems

2012

The aim of this paper is to characterize oil-filled power transformers in the narrow-band power-line communication (PLC) frequency range of 50-150 kHz. A new model is proposed for such type of a transformer, in the aforementioned frequency range of interest, in order to study its influence on the signal transmission and to investigate the possibility that the PLC signal can cross the power transformer itself. The new model is simpler than those previously proposed in literature, and it can be used in the whole frequency range available for NB PLC according to the CENELEC EN 50065-1 A-band. In order to validate the model, simulation and measurement results are compared for four oil-filled po…

Characterization of electromagnetic noise suppression sheet for aerospace applications

2016

Electromagnetic noise suppression sheets based on absorber materials can be an interesting solution to reduce or suppress noise emissions at a high-frequency region that may cause complex EMI problems. These materials usually are characterized by their permeability but their performance also depend on other factors such as dimension, geometry, thickness or noise source kind. Three experimental methods are proposed in order to characterize absorber sheets in different kind of applications taking into account the last factors. These setups make it possible to test several samples with different characteristics and to analyse the absorption capacity in applications with transmission line probl…

Measurement Issues for the Characterization of Medium Voltage Grids Communications

2013

This paper is focused on the measurement issues and procedures for the characterization of medium voltage grids for narrowband power line communications (NB-PLCs), in the perspective of the use and integration of such technology into smart grids communication networks. The fundamentals are given for the characterization of the PLC channel, by means of noise and attenuation measurements. Suitable procedures are also developed for the characterization and modeling of the power system components in the frequency range of interest. Furthermore, the complete model of the PLC system is experimentally validated in a real case study.

Medium Voltage Smart Grid: Experimental Analysis of Secondary Substation Narrow Band Power Line Communication

2013

This paper is focused on the possibility of employing narrow band power line communication (PLC) in medium voltage (MV) distribution networks. The topic is investigated by means of both simulations and experimental tests, which were carried out in the distribution network of Ustica Island. In detail, a two-way MV communication was tested between two secondary substations connected by an MV cable power line. Each substation has a by-pass connection at MV bus-bars and an MV/LV oil filled power transformer. In this paper, the MV and the PLC systems under test are described and the experimental tests are presented, which were carried out to evaluate the parameters of the simulation model. The a…

Lenguaje vago: los números en la enseñanza de español como lengua extranjera

2018

The vague language, in addition to the attenuation, is a pragmatic content that is not worked enough during the lessons of Spanish as a Foreign Language. In fact, the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages nor the Plan Curricular of the Instituto Cervantes give it the relevance it has, especially at levels B and C. In this paper, a theoretical approach to vague language is made, more specifically to the use of numbers. The research shows part of a database in which oral texts have been compiled from Val.Es.Co. (Valencia Español Coloquial), from CREA (Corpus of Reference of t he Present Spanish) and from the research project Es.Var.Atenuación (Spanish Variation and Attenuation)…

Evaluation of the interelemental effect in X-ray fluorescence analysis by the total addition method

1992

An algorithm for quantifying interelemental effects in X-ray fluorescence techniques is developed. By applying an addition process, the ratio between the mass absorption coefficients of the analyte and the unknown sample (μi*/μs*) is calculated to correct the fluorescence intensity of the element to be determined and linearize the I-c calibration plot. This coefficient can be calculated graphically and numerically. The method is applied to the determination of tin in lead alloys with good results over wide concentration ranges.

Combined effect of turbulence and aerosol on free-space optical links

2017

[EN] Despite the benefits of free-space optical (FSO) communications, their full utilization is limited by the influence of atmospheric weather conditions, such as fog, turbulence, smoke, snow, etc. In urban environments, additional environmental factors such as smog and dust particles due to air pollution caused by industry and motor vehicles may affect FSO link performance, which has not been investigated in detail yet. Both smog and dust particles cause absorption and scattering of the propagating optical signal, thus resulting in high attenuation. This work investigates the joint impact of atmospheric turbulence and dust particle-imposed scattering on FSO link performance as part of the…

Detection of disbonds in multilayer structures by laser-based ultrasonic technique

2008

Adhesively bonded multi-layer structures are frequently used, mostly in the aerospace industry, for their structural efficiency. Nondestructive evaluation of bond integrity in these types of structures, both after manufacturing and for periodic inspection during service, is extremely important. A laser-based ultrasonic technique has been evaluated for non-contact detection of disbonds in aluminum multi-layer structures. Two configurations have been used to detect disbonded areas: pitch-catch with unidirectional guided wave scan and through-transmission with bidirectional scan. Guided wave scanning was done with a laser line source and air-coupled transducer sensing at 500 kHz, 1 ;MHz, and 2…
