Stability analysis for stochastic hybrid systems: A survey

This survey addresses stability analysis for stochastic hybrid systems (SHS), which are dynamical systems that combine continuous change and instantaneous change and that also include random effects. A new fuzzy robust dynamic controller for autonomous vehicles with nonholonomic constraints

Abstract In this paper a novel algorithm with a dynamic fuzzy controller applied to the control of trajectory of vehicles with two independent wheels is proposed. An automatic control of trajectory of a vehicle can behave in a not efficient way. It is necessary to consider the friction of the actuators and possible perturbations coming from the outside environment, as for instance the variable characteristics of the ground where the vehicle moves. These perturbations, which depend also on the contact between the wheel and the ground, involve violations of nonholonomic constraints. Input-Output Feedback Linearization Control with On-Line Inductances Estimation of Synchronous Reluctance Motors

This paper proposes an adaptive input-output Feedback Linearization (FL) techniques for Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) drives, taking into consideration the iron losses. As a main original content, this work proposes a control law based on a new dynamic model of the SynRM including iron losses as well as the on-line estimation of the static inductances. The on-line estimation of the SynRM static inductances permits to inherently take into consideration the magnetic saturation phenomena occuring on both axes. Trajectory Decentralized Fuzzy Control of Multiple UAVs.

This paper considers a complete position and heading rate control system for multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with constant altitude. A decentralized trajectory planning algorithm is proposed, where the UAVs will avoid collisions while moving. In order to stabilize the UAVs in the reference planned trajectories and ensure the boundedness of the control velocities, a fuzzy control law is proposed with Lyapunov's stability proof. Simulation experiments developed in Matlab environment confirm the effectiveness and the robustness of the proposed control algorithm with respect to possible turbulence disturbances perturbing the nominal motion of the UAVs.

In order to realize a control system for Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuators, that ensure high displacement precisions, a numerical model that simulates SMA wire behavior subjected to thermo-mechanical actions, up to high number of cycles, has been set up. Sleep scoring is a fundamental but time-consuming process in any sleep laboratory. To speed up the process of sleep scoring without compromising accuracy, this paper develops an automatic sleep scoring toolbox with the capability of multi-signal processing. Enhanced volcanic hot-spot detection using MODIS IR data: results from the MIROVA system

We describe a new volcanic hotspot detection system, named Middle InfraRed Observation of Volcanic Activity (MIROVA), based on the analysis of infrared data acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer sensor (MODIS). MIROVA uses the middle infrared radiation (MIR), measured by MODIS, in order to detect and measure the heat radiation deriving from volcanic activity. The algorithm combines spectral and spatial principles, allowing the detection of heat sources from 1 megawatt (MW) to more than 10 gigawatt (GW). Semantic Word Error Rate for Sentence Similarity

Sentence similarity measures have applications in several tasks, including: Machine Translation, Paraphrase Iden- tification, Speech Recognition, Question-answering and Text Summarization. However, measures designed for these tasks are aimed at assessing equivalence rather than resemblance, partly departing from human cognition of similarity. While this is reasonable for these activities, it hinders the applicability of sentence similarity measures to other tasks. We therefore propose a new sentence similarity measure specifically designed for resemblance evaluation, in order to cover these fields better. Experimental results are discussed.

Can fiscal decentralization alleviate government consumption volatility?

We analyse how fiscal decentralization affects the volatility of government consumption extending the existing literature that mainly deals with the effects of the former on government size. Using data for 97 developed and developing countries from 1971 to 2010, we find that a higher degree of fiscal decentralization leads to lower government consumption volatility. This result holds for the sub-sample of advanced economies, while it is not confirmed for those less-developed. This mechanism seems to work mainly through a lower volatility of the non-discretionary spending, which typically belongs to the central government’s policy.
