This article provides a fresh look into Walter Benjamin’s famous essay, “Artwork in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction” (1936). Following Benjamin scholar Esther Leslie, we claim that Benjamin’s lesser-known concept of “second technique” is integral for understanding both the meaning of essay as well as mapping the political and artistic aims of the 1920’s avant-garde movements in general. The article is structured around two cases of avant-garde, both of which are central already for Benjamin, but remain somewhat under-theorized in connection to Benjamin. These are the Soviet constructivist film and the idea of glass construction in Weimar-era German architecture.

L'any 1933, en ple periode feixista, el poeta avantguardista català J. V. Foix (1893-1987) visità amb la seua esposa la V Triennal d'arquitectura de Milà. Es tractava d'un viatge prou llarg que, a més de Milà, inclogué, pel que sabem, ciutats d'Itàlia i de Iugoslàvia, com ara Florència, Trieste, Roma, Venècia i Ljubljana. El motiu del desplaçament era l'assistència a l'XIé Congrés Internacional del PEN-Club que se celebrà en la primavera del 1933 a Dubrovnik (població per al nom de la qual Foix prefería fer servir el nom llatí de Ragusa). Omega-3 Extraction from Anchovy Fillet Leftovers with Limonene: Chemical, Economic, and Technical Aspects

International audience; We investigate selected chemical, technical, and economic aspects of the production of fish oil rich in polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids from anchovy filleting leftovers using d-limonene as the extraction solvent at ambient temperature and pressure. Entirely derived from the orange peel prior to orange squeezing for juice production, the bio-based solvent is easily recovered, affording a circular economy process with significant potential for practical applications.
Culinary List Form in the Experimental Poetry of 1960s Finland: Literary Menus and Recipes

AbstractThis chapter investigates the close relationship between the list form and experimental writing, and the poetic and literary usage of the form in the ideologically countercultural experimental setting of the 1960s. The focus is on Finnish literature of the decade and texts that utilize the culinary forms of recipe and menu, both of which are essentially based on listing. The texts examined, thus, combine two traditions: the history of food listings in literature, and the fondness for the list form in experimental and avant-garde traditions.
