The primary mediators which are involved in inflammatory processes are histamine, the slow reacting substance of anaphylaxis (SRS-A), the platelet aggregating factor (PAF) and the eosinophil chemotactic factor (ECF). These mediators are primarily localized within mast cells and basophil leucocytes, which represent the target cells of allergic reaction. Binding of IgE to mast cells and basophil leucocytes and addition of the appropriate antigen then leads to the activation of the target cells with a subsequent release of their mediators. Trichromatic color vision in the salamander (Salamandra salamandra)

Spectral sensitivity functions were measured between 334 nm and 683 nm in Salamandra salamandra by utilizing two behavioral reactions: the negative phototactic response, and the prey catching behavior elicited by a moving worm dummy. The action spectrum of the negative phototactic response revealed 3 pronounced maxima: at 360–400 nm, at 520–540 nm, and at 600–640 nm. In the range around 450 nm, there was a “reaction gap” where sensitivity could not be measured. The action spectrum of the prey catching behavior was entirely different: maximal sensitivity was found at 500 nm and at 570 nm. Between 500 nm and 334 nm sensitivity decreased continuously for about 1 log unit (Fig. 6).

Abstract Most optical defect localization techniques such as dynamic laser stimulation or photon emission microscopy require a pattern image of the device to be taken. The main purpose is for device navigation, but it also enables the analyst to identify the location of the monitored activity by superimposing it onto the pattern image. The defect localization workflow usually starts at low or medium magnification. At these scales, several factors can lead to a lack of orthogonality of the sample with the optical axis of the system. Results of computer simulations of polymer layers consisting of chains grafted by one end on an unpenetrable plane are presented. Characteristics of translational and rotational motion of different chain segments and correlation functions of chain radii were calculated both for single layers at different grafting densities s and for two interacting layers at different distances D between parallel grafting planes. This contribution proposes a combination of archaeological fabric analysis and petrographic research applied to the study of 35 sherds of Graeco-Italic amphorae mostly found in Palermo, but also in Pantelleria and Malta (Tab. 1). The provenance identification derived from both approaches gives evidence for the arrival, in North-Western Sicily, of presumable wine amphorae from central-Tyrrhenian Italy since the very late 4th century BC. The production of the majority of the material has been confidentially attributed to the area of the Gulf of Naples/Ischia, but a second large group originates from several, still unidentified production sites to be located along the coastal strip of Campania…
