Study of the use of methanol-filled Er-doped suspended-core fibres in a temperature-sensing ring laser system

We report on an experimental/numerical investigation into the use of methanol-filled Er-doped suspended-core fibres (SCFs) in temperature-sensing ring laser systems. We have adopted a ring laser configuration that includes an Er-doped SCF as a temperature-dependent attenuator (TDA) with a step-index Er-doped fibre (EDF) as the laser active medium. The laser performance dependence on the temperature was measured both in continuous wave (CW) and transient regimes. CW laser output power and build-up time values are compared with those of similar laser systems based on other types of Er-doped PCFs or using other laser configurations. This makes music performance a valuable tool for the study of human action and its neural correlates. This chapter reports action-related processes evoked by the perception of actions, and processes of error correction during music performance. Abstract The corrosion behavior of UNS S32202 duplex stainless steel was studied by combining electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) measurements and critical pitting temperature tests at the microscale. The grain orientation spread (GOS) value was determined in grains of both phases from EBSD data. It was shown that austenitic sites containing extremely small ferrite grains having a GOS value greater than 1.3° were precursor sites for pitting in 4 M NaCl. The critical pitting temperature range was 45–90 °C. All the other sites of both phases remained passive up to 100 °C.

Abstract Passivity of duplex stainless steel was studied after long-term ageing in air using local electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, AES, XPS and EBSD. After mechanical polishing, the passive film was homogeneous and had a capacitive behaviour described by the CPE. After long-term ageing, a small thickening was detected and O2−/OH− was significantly higher in the austenite than in the ferrite. Austenite behaved as a blocking electrode whereas two capacitive loops were observed in the ferrite (low value of O2−/OH). The loop at high frequencies was related with the oxygen reduction and the loop at low frequencies was connected with the passive film.

When planning the road vehicles for the transport of passengers or goods, engineers should take care to contrast some undesirable phenomena in the lateral dynamics, such as high-speed instability or off tracking. While the former is less troubling in the slow heavy vehicles, the latter is a serious problem due to the risk of invading the neighbouring lanes. This paper is the first part of a study reinvestigating the mechanism of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction of oxalic acid, which is the simplest organic substrate for a BZ oscillator. New experiments are performed to find the oscillatory region in 1 M sulfuric acid at 20 °C. The removal rate of the end product bromine by an inert gas stream is a critical parameter here: oscillations can be observed only in a window of that parameter. The “rate constant” for the physical removal of bromine is measured as a function of the gas flow rate and reactor volume; furthermore, the rate constants of three component reactions important in this system are also determined. The development of nanocarriers for drug delivery is challenged by individual blood composition fluctuations. In article number 1802199, Svenja Morsbach and co‐workers report the accumulation of immunoglobulins in the protein corona of nanocarriers in IgG‐enriched blood plasma resulting in increased cell uptake.
