GC and GC-–MS Analysis of Volatile Compounds From Ballota nigra subsp. uncinata Collected in Aeolian Islands, Sicily (Southern Italy)

2020

In the present study, the chemical composition of the essential oils from aerial parts of Ballota nigra subsp. uncinata (Bég.) Patzak collected in Sicily was evaluated by gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectrometry. The main components of the oil were ( E)-phytol (20.0%), α-pinene (9.0%), hexahydrofarnesyl acetone (5.7%), and α-selinene (5.1%). Cluster analysis of the essential oil compositions of all the taxa belonging to B. nigra s.l. group was performed.

The Circumstances and Dynamics of Eurosceptic Contagion

2021

This part of the book tries to explore to what degree the process under study is itself influenced—mitigated or amplified—by the decorum in which Eurosceptic Parties do well and in the process tests the corresponding hypotheses from the theoretical framework. I tackle possibility of Eurosceptic Contagion being part of a self-reinforcing mechanism, whereby growing public discontent with integration, growing popularity of antisystemic fringe parties, and the growing salience of the EU issue might go hand in hand, strengthening each other’s effect over time. The rise of Eurosceptic actors has been a dynamic phenomenon, closely intertwined with the development of the European Union, as well as …

PTCA of the left main stem following protective coronary artery bypass grafting.

1991

Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) was performed in 14 patients with significant left main stem stenosis following protective coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The procedure was successful in 13/14 patients (93%), achieving a decrease in mean diameter stenosis from 74% +/- 7% to 31% +/- 12% (P less than 0.01). Accordingly, the absolute stenosis diameter increased from 0.9 mm +/- 0.3 mm to 2.4 mm +/- 0.5 mm (P less than 0.01). Dissection of the left main stem artery and a transient significant fall of blood pressure each occurred in one patient. No other serious complications were noted. Eight of 13 patients (62%) with successful PTCA underwent control angiography. R…

Posterior One-Trocar-Assisted Pyeloplasty

2019

Introduction Ureteropelvic junction obstruction is the most common pediatric obstructive uropathy. Retroperitoneal lap- aroscopic-assisted dismembered pyeloplasty (OTAP) combines the advantages of a retroperitoneal approach with the high success rate of the open technique. A modification of the OTAP, using a posterior muscle-sparing incision to approach the kidney, is described. Surgical technique With the patient placed in prone position, a transverse 15-mm-long skin incision is made. A 12-mm bal- loon Hasson trocar with operative telescope is inserted after the Gerota’s fascia has been opened. The ureteropelvic junction is exteriorized and a traditional dismembered pyeloplasty is performe…

Does velocity of dilatation influence the result of dilatation? A postmortem study.

1988

We evaluated the influence of velocity of dilatation on the success of and the vascular damage produced by dilatation. Nonatheroslerotic segments of distal superficial femoral arteries were dilated "fast" (n = 69) or "slow" (n = 45) under standard conditions with balloon catheters. The arterial wall was overstretched between 1% and more than 60%. The success of dilatation rose continuously with increasing overstretching during dilatation. The damage to the arterial wall by dilatation increased discontinuously with increasing overstretching. Dilatation success and damage patterns did not differ in the "slow" and "fast" groups.

The issue of the secret ballot in the Cambridge and Oxford Union Societies, c.1830–72: an extension of the nineteenth-century parliamentary culture o…

2014

SUMMARYIn this article, debating societies are considered an inherent part of the formation of a parliamentary culture in Britain. Despite the fact that the nineteenth-century Cambridge and Oxford Union Societies were considered to be ‘training grounds' for statesmen, their debating practices have not been systematically studied in relation to national politics. This is largely due to the fact that the role of debate has remained understated in studies of parliamentary history, even though it is one of the fundamental political features in the Westminster system. Nineteenth-century parliamentary debate did not just occur for its own sake, rather it had a constitutional and political dimensi…

LONG-TERM RESULTS AFTER ENDOSCOPIC DILATION OF POST-OPERATIVE COLO-COLONIC ANASTOMOTIC STENOSES. OUR EXPERIENCE IN 42 PATIENTS.

2013

The aim of this study is to evaluate long-term complications and patient's quality of life after the endoscopic treatment of benign anastomotic colo-colonic strictures. From January 2000 to November 2008,, 42 patients who had undergone surgery for colorectal cancer were endoscopically treated for a postoperative symptomatic stricture. The dilation were performed using a 20-30 mm pneumatic dilator. The clinical results were classified in relation to the abdominal symptomatology reported by the patients, and were evaluated in the short-term (one-week) and long-term (mean follow-up.36 months)period. Results: 15 patients underwent a total of 22 dilating sessions; 9 patients had a single dilatin…
