Metabolites from Mediterranean plants: characterization and transformation. Chemotaxonomic assessment and biological activity.
Selling a vote
2005
Abstract A voting function is a rule that determines the outcome of an election: taking the voters' votes as input, a voting function selects the winning candidate from the set of candidates receiving some vote. A voting function is immune to vote selling when, given that neither voter i nor voter j votes for the winning candidate, a change ceteris paribus in i's vote cannot make the candidate for which j votes the winner. It is shown that voting functions immune to vote selling have either a dictator (a voter who always determines the winning candidate) or a dictated candidate (a candidate who becomes the winner by just receiving some vote).

Transcervical approach for carotid artery stenting with transitory reversal flow: Case report
2021
Introduction Carotid artery stenting (CAS) has been indicated as an alternative to carotid endarterectomy in high risk patients. Sometimes, an aortic arch can be anatomically unfavourable for CAS. Herein we report our experience in a case of CAS with transcervical approach. Presentation of case A 77-year-old male was referred to our hospital for severe subtotal occlusion of the left internal carotid artery. He had a past medical history of radiation to the head and neck for laryngeal cancer. Previous CT-angiography had shown a type III aortic with bovine arch. CAS via transcervical approach was performed with transitory reversal flow during the placement of RX Spider Filter 6 Fr (Medtronic,…
Echocardiographic and angiographic evaluation of left ventricular function during percutaneous transluminal aortic valvuloplasty.
1992
Transesophageal echocardiography was used to study the effect of the balloon inflation on left ventricular function in 20 patients with critical aortic stenosis undergoing balloon valvuloplasty. Balloon inflation caused an increase of end-diastolic (15% to 34%) and end-systolic (57% to 72%) left ventricular volume. Left ventricular wall stress increased from 30 +/- 10 x 10(3) dyn/cm2 at diastole and 121 +/- 40 x 10(3) dyn/cm2 at systole to 44 +/- 11 x 10(3) dyn/cm2 and 191 +/- 55 x 10(3) dyn/cm2, respectively, when the balloon was inflated (P less than 0.05). Turbulent regurgitant jet across the mitral valve increased from 15 +/- 2% to 25 +/- 3% during balloon inflation (P less than 0.01). …
Modified hemi-Fontan procedure on the beating heart

the heart by infusing the cardioplegic solution under aortic occlusion by means of the balloon throughout the procedure. Even though the balloon catheter passes through the aortic valve, significant aortic valve insufficiency is not likely to occur because of the small caliber of the balloon catheter. We believe that the clinical application of this double-lumen aortic occlusion catheter will protect the myocardium in patients with a thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm or distal descending aortic aneurysm who undergo the operation through the left thoracotomy with DHCA.
Assessment of left ventricular function during aortic balloon valvuloplasty by transesophageal echocardiography
1989
Several reports have documented the feasability and utility of balloon aortic valvuloplasty as a palliative treatment for high-surgical-risk patients with critical aortic valve stenosis (1–3).

High-frequency rotational ablation following failed percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty.
1994
Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) failed in 29 of 1,150 patients (2.5%) after successful passage of the guide wire. The reasons for failure were inability to pass the lesion with a balloon in 28 patients and inability to dilate the lesion in 1 patient. In these patients (15 stenoses and 14 chronic occlusions) rotational ablation was performed. We were able to pass the burr through the lesion in all of them, resulting in a reduction of diameter stenosis from 87 +/- 15 to 51 +/- 18%. Rotational ablation alone was initially successful (stenoses reduction > 20% and residual stenoses < 50%) in 15 of 29 (52%) patients. Additional PTCA was performed in 21 of 29 (72%) patients, …
