Revision of asterolepidoid antiarch remains from the Ogre Formation (Upper Devonian) of Latvia

The Frasnian (Upper Devonian) antiarch Walterilepis speciosa was first described in 1933 (as Taeniolepis) on the basis of a single specimen. The newly collected material has allowed the head to be described in a more detail, especially the nuchal and paranuchal plates. Other newly described elements include bones of the pectoral appendages and trunk armour, demonstrating a rather high and short trunk armour. The shape and proportions of the head and trunk armour suggest the attribution of Walterilepis to the family Pterichthyodidae; it is most probably closely related to Lepadolepis from the Late Frasnian of Germany. Y hromosomas ģenētisko variāciju salīdzinājums baltu un austrumslāvu populācijās

Maģistra darbs ir veltīts austrumslāvu populāciju Y hromosomas ģenētiskās struktūras īpatnību noteikšanai un iegūto rezultātu salīdzinājumam ar baltu un ziemeļaustrumu Eiropas populācijām. Pētījuma ietvaros tika noteikta Y hromosomas haplogrupu izplatība Kijevas un Novgorodas apgabala populācijās. Iegūtie rezultāti norāda, ka Kijevas apgabalā visizplatītākā haplogrupa ir R1a (39,71%), bet Novgorodas apgabalā – N1c (74,32%). Detalizējot rezultātus ar PCA un filoģenētisko Neighbour-Joining analīzi, tika noteikts, ka Novgorodas apgabala populācija ģenētiski atrodas vistuvāk somiem augstās N1c haplogrupas izplatības dēļ, savukārt, pēc R1a-M558 atzara izplatības pētītajā teritorijā, autore secin…

A comparative study of some morphological (segment number, scolex morphology and biometry, length and weight) and biological (maturation in different hosts) features ofSchistocephalus solidus plerocercoids and adults from different geographical regions (Baltic Sea and the British Isles) was carried out. The length of the plerocercoids fromGasterosteus aculeatus was shown to be the variable that best correlated with segment number. East meets west in the 6th millennium: Mesolithic osseous tools and art from Sise on the Latvian seaboard

A collection of 141 bone and antler tools and debitage pieces recovered from the River Užava at the village of Sise constitutes the largest Mesolithic osseous assemblage in western Latvia. Radiocarbon dating of 12 pieces suggests that most of this collection dates from the 6th millennium calBC. We present a general analysis, highlighting typical and unique tool forms, ornamented and sculpted pieces, and assess the corpus in a wider geographical context. Different regulatory models of transfer of industrial property rights in the Baltic States: A plea for harmonized approach

AbstractThe authors explore different models of transfer of industrial property on a comparative basis. The article demonstrates that these models differ on a country level and several models may be in use in one legal system. The authors analyze strengths and weaknesses and legal implications of these models in the three Baltic States both at the regulatory level and at the practical level through case studies. The authors conclude that would be preferable to use the model under which the register is vested with negative publicity and the transfer of ownership of industrial property is not made dependent on its recordation.
Solid-state compatibility of Ca:LaNbO4 with perovskite cathodes: Evidences from X-ray microspectroscopy

The solid-state compatibility between calcium-doped lanthanum niobate and three perovskite cathode materials was investigated using two X-ray microbeam techniques, micro X-ray fluorescence and micro X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The cathode powders (lanthanum strontium ferrite, either cobalt or copper-doped, and lanthanum strontium cobaltite) in contact with the dense electrolyte pellet were annealed at 1150 degrees C for 12-144 h to simulate the effect of thermal stresses due to fabrication and long-term operation.
