Background: From March 1994 to August 1995 we performed extraperitoneal endoscopic adrenalectomy in 18 patients with adrenal gland tumors. Methods: Two of these patients underwent bilateral adrenalectomy. For the extraperitoneal approach a pneumoret-roperitoneum was established and three 10-mm trocars were inserted in the area of the conventional flank incision. Adrenalectomy was performed via these ports. Endoscopic retroperitoneal adrenalectomy was successful in 15 patients; three patients required a conventional operation via an extraperitoneal lumbar approach because of inadequate exposure of the adrenal gland. Most colon cancers develop from nonmalignant colonic adenomas or polyps over a comparatively long time period ranging between 24 and 60 months. Reflecting this adenomatous pathogenesis of most colorectal cancers, polyp screening with subsequent polypectomy is used to constitute an effective approach for decreasing the incidence of this malignant tumor. Objetivo: valorar el uso precoz de la tomografía computarizada (TC) para el diagnóstico, estadificación y manejo de la diverticulitis aguda. Material y métodos: realizamos un estudio prospectivo de 102 pacientes con el diagnóstico clínico de diverticulitis aguda de colon izquierdo. Traumatic lumbar disc extrusion mimicking spinal epidural hematoma: Case report and literature review

Background: Because the neurological presentation of spinal epidural hematomas (SEH) is often not specific, they may be misdiagnosed as acute lumbar disk herniations. Here, we present a case in which a traumatic disc extrusion mimicked an epidural hematoma and reviewed the appropriate literature. Case Description: A 27-year-old male sustained a high-energy fall. Transcatheter embolization of the kidney with butyl-2-cyanoacrylate: Experimental and clinical results

The technique and efficacy of therapeutic catheter embolization of the kidney with butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (Histoacryl) were studied in 80 rabbits (including control groups) and in 10 dogs. A mixture of butyl-2-cyanoacrylate, 50% glucose, and tantalum powder was used for the embolization. Complete and permanent vascular occlusion was found in nearly all cases. The main complication observed was a reflux of embolizing material into the lumbar arteries, which occurred in seven rabbits. Clinically, therapeutic embolization was performed in six patients with hypernephroma. Guillain-Barrè Syndrome, as part of the spectrum of dysimmune neuropathies, is unexpected to occur in immunocompromised hosts. We describe a clinical case of Guillain-Barrè syndrome, occurred a few weeks after a liver transplant, and we postulate that our case would satisfy all requirements to explain this peripheral nervous system complication as a clinical manifestation of an Immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome.
