Study on the synthesis of novel 5-substituted 2-[2-(pyridyl)ethenyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazoles and their acid–base interactions
2014
Abstract A series of novel 5-substituted 2-[2-(pyridyl)ethenyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazoles were efficiently synthesized by cyclocondensation of the appropriate 3-(pyridyl)acrylohydrazides with triethyl orthoesters in the presence of glacial acetic acid. The products were identified by means of spectroscopic methods and their pKA ionization constants were determined. The influence of substituents on the basicity of the pyridine system has been discussed. Graphical Abstract
Combinatorial chemistry of -hairpins
2000
Combinatorial chemistry is expanding rapidly both in terms of chemistry development and application to the synthesis of compound libraries for lead discovery and optimization. Combinatorial technologies continue evolving and developing, in fact they are being used as basic research tools in different fields that include peptide/protein folding. This review examines the use of combinatorial chemistry in the design of peptides and protein domains that adopt beta-sheet conformations. In particular, the use of conformationally restricted peptide libraries has allowed the identification of linear peptides that are folded in a beta-hairpin structure in plain aqueous solutions.
Basic kinetic model for the reaction yielding linear polyurethanes. II
1995
On the basis of the gradual polyaddition kinetic model developed earlier, an attempt was made to provide a generalized mathematical model for the set of reactions yielding linear polyurethanes. The model is a system of first-order ordinary differential equations. It was assumed at the present stage of this model that the rate constants for the reaction considered do not change. The model developed was then solved numerically. Average molecular weight of the polymer and composition data for oligomers were calculated for a constant volume batch reactor and varied process parameters. The GPC method, which was tested for model urethane oligomers, was employed to verify the model developed. The …
Calculation of vapor pressures not requiring the derivatives of the energy of mixing
1997
A method is presented for the calculation of vapor pressures exclusively on the basis of the energy of mixing, the knowledge of chemical potentials is not required. The only condition used for the calculation is the minimum of the energy of mixing of the overall system in equilibrium. The gas phase is treated as an ideal gas, for the liquid phase no specific thermodynamic description is assumed. The method is demonstrated for a mixture of two solvents and one polymer. The system water/poly(ethylene oxide), the thermodynamics of which are described by an equation that can only be solved numerically thus impeding the calculation of chemical potentials, serves as an example. Interaction parame…
Natural organic matter export from boreal catchments (the Salaca River basin, Latvia) and its influencing factors
2012
A noteworthy increase in the organic matter concentration and export, as well as water colour, in the catchments of the Salaca River has been observed during the last decades. This study investigates factors behind this increase: the impact of climate, land use and human loading changes on the concentrations and export of the organic matter in the Salaca River/Lake Burtnieks catchments. Proportion of wetlands in the river basin, type of land use, and runoff regime can be considered as the main factors influencing the organic carbon loadings. Despite a steady overall tendency of increase, considerable oscillations of organic matter loadings influenced by the changes in the river discharge re…
Influence of anthropogenic activity on the lead isotope signature of Thau Lake sediments (southern France): origin and temporal evolution
2000
Lead concentrations and isotopic compositions were determined on both bulk sediments deposited in the Thau lake in southern France during the last 200 years, and leachates derived from a series of sequential leachings of the sediments, making it possible to identify the sources, natural (i.e. indigenous lithologic) or anthropogenic, and to quantify the different inputs of Pb. Two distinct inputs of Pb could be distinguished. One of these corresponds to the terrigenous material entering the basin, representative of the local natural Pb ‘background’. Its supply remained steady most of the time with 206Pb/207Pb ratios of 1.200±0.003, except at the time of heavy storms producing voluminous and …
Theoretical Study of the Elimination Kinetics of Carboxylic Acid Derivatives in the Gas Phase. Decomposition of 2-Chloropropionic Acid
1997
The reaction mechanism for the decomposition of 2-chloropropionic acid in the gas phase to form hydrogen chloride, carbon monoxide, and acetaldehyde has been theoretically characterized. Analytical gradients have been used by means of AM1 and PM3 semiempirical procedures and ab initio methods at HF and DFT (BLYP) levels with the 6-31G** basis set. The correlation effects were also included by using the perturbational approach at the MP2 level with the 6-31G** and 6-31++G** basis sets and the variational approach at the CISD/6-31G** level and by means of MCSCF wave functions with a (6,6) complete active space and the 6-31G** basis set. The global potential energy surface has been studied, an…
1,3-Di(hetero)aryl-7-substituted Pyrenes—An Undiscovered Area of Important Pyrene Derivatives
2019
Despite the pyrene derivatives have been covered extensively by scientists during the last years, many interesting properties and applications of pyrene derivatives have been presented, nowadays there are still areas of pyrenes’ chemistry that need to be fulfilled. Most of the described in literature pyrenes are 1,3,6,8-tetrasubstituted followed by 4,5,9,10-tetrasubstituted, 2,7-, and 1,6-, and 1,8-disubstituted pyrene derivatives. In the case of 1,3-di(hetero)aryl-7-substituted, there are only a few examples of derivatives containing at position 7 - tert-butyl group. In this work, the necessity of synthesis of 1,3-di(hetero)aryl-7-substituted pyrenes is presented based on the results of th…
Synthesis and Conformational Analysis of Saturated3,1,2-Benzoxazaphosphinine 2-Oxides
2005
N-Unsubstituted, N-methyl and N-benzyl cis- and trans-2(hydroxymethyl)cyclohexylamines were subjected to ring closure with phenylphosphonic dichloride, phenyl dichlorophosphate and bis(2-chloroethyl)phosphoramidic dichloride in order to synthesize P-epimeric diastereomers of the corresponding unsubsituted and N-substituted 2-phenyl-, 2phenoxy- and 2-[bis(2-chloroethyl)amino]octahydro-2H3,1,2-benzoxazaphosphinine 2-oxides. The stereochemistry and conformations of the prepared compounds were analyzed mainly by variable-temperature 1 H, 13 C and 31 P NMR spectroscopy. Geometry optimizations were performed for some trans-fused molecules by utilizing the B3LYP DFT method and a locally dense basi…
ChemInform Abstract: A Theoretical Determination of the Dissociation Energy of the Nitric Oxide Dimer.
2010
Multi-reference CI methods have been applied to determine the dissociation energy and structure of thecis-N2O2 molecule. The convergence of the theoretical result has been checked with respect to a systematic expansion of the one-electron basis set and the multi-reference CI wave function. The best calculated value, 13.8 kJ/mol, is in agreement with the experimental value, 12.2 kJ/mol. It has been obtained with an extended ANO-type basis set [6s5p3d2f], including the effect of the basis set superposition error (BSSE) in the geometry optimization, and additional effects, such as the electron correlation of core electrons and relativistic corrections, using the average coupled pair functional…
