Vasseuromys rambliensis sp. nov. (Gliridae, Mammalia) from the Ramblian (Lower Miocene) of the Tudela Formation (Ebro basin, Spain)

2012

In this paper, a new species of Vasseuromys, V. rambliensis sp. nov., from the locality Pico del Fraile 1 (PF1, Ebro basin, North-eastern Spain) is described. The association of Ligerimys, Peridyromys murinus and Simplomys simplicidens, and the absence of Eucricetodon and Democricetodon, allows dating of the PF1 locality as Late Ramblian (Early Miocene, MN3, local zone A). Main diagnostic features of V. rambliensis sp. nov. are the presence of four extra ridges in the lower molars, a very reduced anterotropid and a metaloph connected to the posteroloph and not to the protocone. The size and morphology of V. rambliensis sp. nov. are very close to V. bacchius from the upper part of unit MN2, …

Pedagogical leadership to support new teachers' growth

2016

This study aims to discover the impact of pedagogical leadership on new teachers’ growth. The research is focused on three questions: 1) Are new teachers’ feelings and challenges being understood?; 2) How do new teachers receive support from principals and the school community?; and 3) How does pedagogical leadership impact new teachers’ growth? The research uses the qualitative approach of case studies. Four Finnish schools were selected as participants. The principals of each school and their five new teachers, with less than three years of experience, participated in the interviews. Teachers in Finland have common challenges when they first enter the profession. Finnish school communitie…

Vibrational Spectrum of HXeSH revisited : Combined computational and experimental study

2020

Vibrational spectrum of HXeSH embedded in low-temperature matrix is experimentally studied. To support the spectrum interpretation, anharmonic vibrational analysis is performed using different models and basis sets and the data is compared with previous experimental and theoretical analyses. Computations of overtones and combination modes allowed for new band assignments. The HXeSH molecule exhibits high anharmonicity similarly as other molecules from the noble-gas hydride family. Comparison of the employed computational methods shows once again that the modelling of the noble-gas compounds faces theoretical challenges to yield quantitatively reliable results. peerReviewed

Betatrophin Levels Are Related to the Early Histological Findings in Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

2021

Betatrophin, a liver hormone, regulates glucose and lipid metabolism. We investigated the betatrophin levels in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and searched for any relationship with histological severity and metabolic parameters. Fifty males with NAFLD [Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH) (n = 32)

Shape staggering of midshell mercury isotopes from in-source laser spectroscopy compared with density-functional-theory and Monte Carlo shell-model c…

2019

Neutron-deficient Hg177-185 isotopes were studied using in-source laser resonance-ionization spectroscopy at the CERN-ISOLDE radioactive ion-beam facility in an experiment combining different detection methods tailored to the studied isotopes. These include either α-decay tagging or multireflection time-of-flight gating for isotope identification. The endpoint of the odd-even nuclear shape staggering in mercury was observed directly by measuring for the first time the isotope shifts and hyperfine structures of Hg177-180. Changes in the mean-square charge radii for all mentioned isotopes, magnetic dipole, and electric quadrupole moments of the odd-A isotopes and arguments in favor of I=7/2 s…

Antibacterial activity of Ocimum basilicum L. essential oil against Gram-negative bacteria

2016

Cel pracy. Celem pracy było określenie aktywności przeciwbakteryjnej olejku bazyliowego wobec bakterii Gram-ujemnych. Materiał i metody. W pracy oceniono wpływ olejku bazyliowego oraz czas jego działania na przeżywalność Gram-ujemnych bakterii. Badanie wrażliwości bakterii na olejek baz…

Oligonucleotide-capped nanoporous anodic alumina biosensor as diagnostic tool for rapid and accurate detection of Candida auris in clinical samples.

2021

[EN] Candida auris has arisen as an important multidrug-resistant fungus because of several nosocomial outbreaks and elevated rates of mortality. Accurate and rapid diagnosis of C. auris is highly desired; nevertheless, current methods often present severe limitations and produce misidentification. Herein a sensitive, selective, and time-competitive biosensor based on oligonucleotide-gated nanomaterials for effective detection of C. auris is presented. In the proposed design, a nanoporous anodic alumina scaffold is filled with the fluorescent indicator rhodamine B and the pores blocked with different oligonucleotides capable of specifically recognize C. auris genomic DNA. Finnish teachers’ and students’ programming motivation and their role in teaching and learning computational thinking

2022

Introduction: Despite the growing importance of teaching and learning computational thinking (CT) through programming in schools, research has shown major individual differences in teachers’ instruction emphasis and students’ skills in these topics. Objective: This study aims to shed further light on the role that teachers’ and students’ programming motivation plays in CT. Methods: The topic is approached from the viewpoint of the self-determination theory, which can help to understand teachers’ instruction and students’ learning. Our sample consisted of Finnish Grade 8 teachers (N = 1,853) and students (N = 2,546) who participated in the International Computer and Information Literacy Stud…

The correspondence between PISA performance and school achievement in Finland.

2022

In the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), the key knowledge and skills needed in modern society are assessed. So far, however, little is known on the relationship between PISA performance and school achievement. Using Finnish PISA 2015 and 2018 data combined with the national register of education records, we studied whether there is correspondence between PISA performance and school achievement. The results showed that the correspondence between PISA performance and school achievement is moderate. The PISA proficiency scores correlated not only with the corresponding grades but also with the grades of other theoretical subjects, indicating that the PISA test assesses a …
