Reinforcement learning approach to nonequilibrium quantum thermodynamics

We use a reinforcement learning approach to reduce entropy production in a closed quantum system brought out of equilibrium. Our strategy makes use of an external control Hamiltonian and a policy gradient technique. Our approach bears no dependence on the quantitative tool chosen to characterize the degree of thermodynamic irreversibility induced by the dynamical process being considered, require little knowledge of the dynamics itself and does not need the tracking of the quantum state of the system during the evolution, thus embodying an experimentally non-demanding approach to the control of non-equilibrium quantum thermodynamics. A singular (p,q)-equation with convection and a locally defined perturbation

Abstract We consider a parametric Dirichlet problem driven by the ( p , q ) -Laplacian and a reaction which is gradient dependent (convection) and the competing effects of two more terms, one a parametric singular term and a locally defined perturbation. We show that for all small values of the parameter the problem has a positive smooth solution.

[EN] In this letter, we have investigated the electronic structure of A(x)Ba(1-x)Nb(2)O(6) relaxor ferroelectrics on the basis of optical absorption spectroscopy in unpoled single crystals with A = Sr and Ca under high pressure. The direct character of the fundamental transition could be established by fitting Urbach's rule to the photon energy dependence of the absorption edge yielding bandgaps of 3.44(1) eV and 3.57(1) eV for A = Sr and Ca, respectively. The light scattering by ferroelectric domains in the pre-edge spectral range has been studied as a function of composition and pressure. Anomalies of dielectric properties and conductivity in single domain LiNbO3:Zn crystals

ABSTRACTA study of the temperature dependence of dielectric constant, conductivity, and piezoelectric modulus in the single-domain state of LiNbO3 crystals modified by Zn admixture at threshold concentration is reported. Unipolarity of the LiNbO3:Zn crystals is observed to increase after treatment of brand-new samples by high-temperature electro-diffusion annealing and by subsequent high-temperature annealing of short-circuited samples. The observed effects are explained as a result of meta-stable residual domains collapsing at high temperature the collapse being assisted by disintegration of charged clusters stabilizing domain walls. Preparation and dielectric properties of (Na 0.5 K 0.5 )NbO 3 ceramics with ZnO and CdO addition

The sintering conditions, phase structure, and electrical properties of the ZnO and CdO doped (Na0.5K0.5)NbO3 (NKN) ceramics were investigated and discussed. All the samples were prepared by a solid state reaction method. The addition of 1 wt% CdO and ZnO as a sintering aid increases the density and lowering the sintering temperature. XRD analysis indicated perovskite structure with monoclinic symmetry. The investigated samples are good quality, the grains are well shaped without a glassy phase. The results of dielectric measurements revealed, that the dielectric properties of NKN based ceramics are stable in the wide temperature range.

Gel combustion synthesis and magnetic properties of CoFe2O4, ZnFe2O4, and MgFe2O4 using 6-aminohexanoic acid as a new fuel

Abstract For the first time, 6-aminohexanoic acid is used as an alternative fuel in the synthesis of the spinel ferrites with compositions CoFe2O4, ZnFe2O4 and MgFe2O4 using gel combustion synthesis with different oxidizer-to-fuel (O/F) ratios. The gel precursors were studied by differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetry (DTA/TG), which showed that the ignition temperature depends on the gel precursor, being around 230 °C, 130 °C and 275 °C for CoFe2O4, ZnFe2O4, and MgFe2O4, respectively. These results showed than the 6-aminohexanoic acid has an ignition temperature lower than the urea and the citric acid when were used in the synthesis of the spinel ferrites by gel combustion. More…

Current Spreading Length and Injection Efficiency in ZnO/GaN-Based Light-Emitting Diodes

We report on carrier injection features in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) based on nonintentionally doped-ZnO/p-GaN heterostructures. These LEDs consist of a ZnO layer grown by chemical-bath deposition (CBD) onto a p-GaN template without using any seed layer. The ZnO layer (~1- $\mu \text{m}$ thickness) consists of a dense collection of partially coalesced ZnO nanorods, organized in wurtzite phase with marked vertical orientation, whose density depends on the concentration of the solution during the CBD process. Interface evolution during magnetic pulse welding under extremely high strain rate collision: mechanisms, thermomechanical kinetics and consequences

Abstract Magnetic pulse welding enables to produce perplexing interfacial morphologies due to the complex material response during the high strain rate collision. Thus, a thermomechanical model is used in this study to investigate the formation mechanism of the wake, vortex, swirling and mesoscale cavities with the increase of the impact intensity at the interface. The formation of these interfacial features are difficult to characterize by insitu methods, thus the origin of phenomena still remain a subject of open discussion.
