Nerve agent simulant detection by using chromogenic triaryl methane cation probes
2012
Two triaryl methane cations have been used as probes for colorimetric detection of nerve agent simulants. Buffered mixed aqueous solutions of 1 and 2 showed bathochromic shifts in the presence of DCNP (diethylcyanophosphonate) and DCP (diethylchlorophosphate). The colour modulation can be observed to the naked eye. Appropriate mechanisms for the recognition event are proposed. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd.
A1. FATTORI INERENTI ALLO SVILUPPO DI FIORITURE DI CIANOBATTERI TOSSICI CON PARTICOLARE RIFERIMENTO A EUTROFIZZAZIONE E CAMBIAMENTI CLIMATICI
2014

Neutral and oxidized triisopropylsilyl end-capped oligothienoacenes: a combined electrochemical, spectroscopic, and theoretical study.
2010
This work presents an analy- sis of the structural, electrochemical, and optical properties of a family of triisopropylsilyl end-capped oligothie- noacenes (TIPS-Tn-TIPS, n = 4-8) by combining cyclic voltammetry, spectro- scopic techniques, and quantum-chemi- cal calculations. TIPS-Tn-TIPS com- pounds form stable radical cations, and dications are only obtained for the lon- gest oligomers (n = 7 and 8). Oxidation leads to the quinoidization of the con- jugated backbone, from which elec- trons are mainly extracted. The absorp- tion and fluorescence spectra show par- tially resolved vibronic structures even at room temperature, due to the rigid molecular geometry. Two well-resolved vibronic p…
Three dimensional numerical simulation of wind driven flows in closed channels and basins
2008
In the paper, a fully 3D finite-volume numerical model is developed and employed for the prediction of wind-induced flows in a regular channel and in a square basin with a complex bathymetry. Numerical results are compared with laboratory experiments.Numerical tests are then performed to investigate whether simplifying assumptions about the pressure distribution and the turbulente stresses representation can be employed in the simulation of wind-driven flows. The hydrostatic pressure assumption, resulting in the use of “quasi-3D” models, proved to be reasonably acceptable in order to obtain the vertical profile of the streamwise velocity component away from the boundaries. The quasi-3D mode…
The geographic information in the assessment of geohazard in the marine environment
2011
Slope instability and erosion, mass transport, volcanic and tectonic activity, fast sediment accumulation fluid escape are the main processes responsible for the geohazard in marine environment. A major knowledge about the geological setting of the offshore areas and related processes can be crucial to assess and manage the potential geological risks. High resolution morphobathymetric surveys, yielded in the frame of the MaGIC project (Marine Geohazards along the Italian Coasts), integrated with previously acquired data, single-channel seismic reflection profiles, backscatter data and sediments sampling, allow to define the geomorphological, stratigraphic and structural features in the offs…
Single zircon ages for two Archean banded migmatitic gneisses from central Zimbabwe
2004
We report new single zircon ages for two Archean banded gneisses from the Shangani Batholith in central Zimbabwe. The ages of ~2.77 and ~2.84 Ga do not support previous views that the area west of the current exposure of the Tokwe Segment was part of an early- to mid-Archean (>2.95 Ga) domain (Sebakwe Proto-craton). The data correspond to ~2.9 to 2.8 Ga dates for TTG granitoids of the Chingezi Suite. Members of this suite occur as intrusions within the south-central part of the Zimbabwe Craton and are associated with contemporaneous felsic volcanic rocks. On the basis of their age distribution, isotopic characteristics and outcrop pattern with respect to the Tokwe Segment, the formation of …
Fabrication and characterisation of ZnO nanostructures: from nanoscale building blocks to hybrid nanomaterials - towards emerging technologies in sen…
2012
Metal oxide nanostructures characterized by multiple morphologies and structures are at the forefront of applications driven nanotechnology research. In particular, they represent a versatile solution for performance enhancement and applications in multifunctional devices and offer distinct advantages over their bulk counterparts. The current state in ZnO nanomaterials research and its impact in nanotechnology and modern engineering are discussed through the lens of con-tinuing technological advances in synthetic techniques allowing to obtain the material with predefined specific set of criteria including size, functionality, and uniqueness. Aim of this research activity is fabrication and …
Chemical Bath Deposition as a Simple Way to Grow Isolated and Coalesced ZnO Nanorods for Light-Emitting Diodes Fabrication
2018
A way to grow and characterize isolated and coalesced ZnO nanorods on $p$ -GaN/sapphire structure is presented. Chemical bath deposition can be used to grow ZnO nanorods of device-quality, simply controlling the duration time of the growth process and the concentration of the nutrient solution in the bath. Increasing the duration of the process, as well as the concentration of the solution, leads to compact and sound layers instead of separated nanorods. However, too high concentrations stop the growth process. Light-emitting diodes fabricated on these ZnO-p-GaN heterostructure have a peak of electroluminescence at 400 nm and exhibit interesting electrical and optical properties. Optical po…
Coalescence of ZnO nanorods grown by chemical bath deposition
2018
In this work, a way to grow isolated and coalesced ZnO nanorods on p-GaN/sapphire structure is presented. Chemical bath deposition [1],[2] was used to grow ZnO nanorods of device-quality on a p-GaN/n-GaN/sapphire template, simply controlling the duration time of the growth process and the concentration of the nutrient solution in the bath. Several p-GaN templates were soaked in a nutrient solution, prepared with different concentration of zinc nitrate hexahydrate (Sigma-Aldrich, reagent grade 98%) and hexamethylenetetramine (Alfa Aesar, ACS 99%) in deionized water, while being heated at a temperature of 80 °C for a period varying from 8 to 25 hours; then, the samples were left in the soluti…
