Measurement of double-differential muon neutrino charged-current interactions onC8H8without pions in the final state using the T2K off-axis beam

2016

We report the measurement of muon neutrino charged-current interactions on carbon without pions in the final state at the T2K beam energy using 5.734×1020 protons on target. For the first time the measurement is reported as a flux-integrated, double-differential cross section in muon kinematic variables (cosθμ, pμ), without correcting for events where a pion is produced and then absorbed by final state interactions. Two analyses are performed with different selections, background evaluations and cross-section extraction methods to demonstrate the robustness of the results against biases due to model-dependent assumptions. The measurements compare favorably with recent models which include n…

The Mu3e experiment

2021

The experiment aims for a single event sensitivity of 2\cdot 10^{-15}2⋅10−15 on the charged lepton flavour violating \mu^+\rightarrow e^+ e^+ e^-μ+→e+e+e− decay. The experimental apparatus, a light-weight tracker based on custom High-Voltage Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors placed in a 1 T magnetic field is currently under construction at the Paul Scherrer Institute, where it will fully use the intense 10^88\mu^+μ+/s beam available. A final sensitivity of 1 \cdot 10^{-16}1⋅10−16 is envisioned for a phase II experiment, driving the development of a new high-intensity continuous muon source which will deliver >10^99\mu^+μ+/s to the experiment.

Corrections to the fluxes of a Neutrino Factory

2002

In view of their physics goals, future neutrino factories from muon decay aim at an overall flux precision of ${\cal O}(1%)$ or better. We analytically study the QED radiative corrections to the neutrino differential distributions from muon decay. Kinematic uncertainties due to the divergence of the muon beam are considered as well. The resulting corrections to the neutrino flux turn out to be of order ${\cal O}(0.1%)$, safely below the required precision.

Rapidity dependence of particle production in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions

2002

We compute the rapidity dependence of particle and transverse energy production in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions at various beam energies and atomic numbers using the perturbative QCD + saturation model. The distribution is a broad gaussian near $y=0$ but the rapid increase of particle production with the beam energy will via energy conservation strongly constrain the rapidity distribution at large $y$.

The End Point Tagger physics program at A2@MAMI

2017

The A2-Collaboration uses a beam of real photons from the tagged photon facility at the electron accelerator MAMI in Mainz, Germany, to study photo-produced mesons. A new tagging device allows access to the higher photon beam energy range of 1.4 to 1.6 GeV. A large dataset containing more than 6 million η ′ and roughly 29 million ω decays has been obtained. Analyses are ongoing, including a study of the cusp effect and Dalitz plot in η ′ → ηπ 0 π 0 , giving insight to the π π scattering length and the structure of the ηππ system, as well as the measurement of the electromagnetic transition form factor in η ′ → e + e − γ , a cross section measurement of γ p → 3 π 0 , and branching ratio anal…

Measurement of the transverse target and beam-target asymmetries in η meson photoproduction at MAMI

2014

We present new data for the transverse target asymmetry T and the very first data for the beam-target asymmetry F in the $\vec \gamma \vec p\to\eta p$ reaction up to a center-of-mass energy of W=1.9 GeV. The data were obtained with the Crystal-Ball/TAPS detector setup at the Glasgow tagged photon facility of the Mainz Microtron MAMI. All existing model predictions fail to reproduce the new data indicating a significant impact on our understanding of the underlying dynamics of $\eta$ meson photoproduction. The peculiar nodal structure observed in existing T data close to threshold is not confirmed.

Beam-Helicity Asymmetries in Double-Pion Photoproduction off the Proton

2009

Beam-helicity asymmetries have been measured at the MAMI accelerator in Mainz in the three isospin channels $\vec{\gamma}p\to \pi^{+}\pi^0n$, $\vec{\gamma}p\to \pi^{0}\pi^0p$ and $\vec{\gamma}p\to \pi^{+}\pi^{-}p$ . The circularly polarized photons, produced from bremsstrahlung of longitudinally polarized electrons, were tagged with the Glasgow magnetic spectrometer. Charged pions and the decay photons of $\pi^0$ mesons were detected in a $~4\pi$ electromagnetic calorimeter which combined the Crystal Ball detector with the TAPS detector. The precisely measured asymmetries are very sensitive to details of the production processes and are thus key observables in the modeling of the reaction d…

Beam Asymmetry of Coherentπ° Photoproduction on4Hein theΔ(1232) Range Measured using Coherent Bremsstrahlung

1997

Using coherent bremsstrahlung at MAMI (Mainz), the beam asymmetry of the differential cross sections for coherent $\ensuremath{\pi}\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}$ photoproduction on ${}^{4}\mathrm{He}$ has been measured in the energy interval from 200 to 500 MeV at an angle of ${\ensuremath{\theta}}_{\mathrm{lab}}\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}=\phantom{\rule{0ex}{0ex}}37\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}$. The coherent ( $\ensuremath{\gamma},\ensuremath{\pi}\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}$) reaction is used as a precise linear polarimeter for the first time. Agreement with predictions has been obtained on a $\ensuremath{\gtrsim}3%$ level of precision.

Measurement of the Beam-Helicity Asymmetry in thep(e→,e′p)π0Reaction at the Energy of theΔ(1232)Resonance

2002

In a p((e) over right arrow, e' p)pi(0) out-of-plane coincidence experiment at the three-spectrometer setup of the Mainz Microtron MAMI, the beam-helicity asymmetry has been precisely measured around the energy of the Delta(1232) resonance and Q(2) = 0.2(GeV/c)(2). The results are in disagreement with three up-to-date model calculations. This is interpreted as a lack of understanding of the nonresonant background, which in dynamical models is related to the pion cloud.
