Learning From Errors: Detecting Cross-Technology Interference in WiFi Networks

2018

In this paper, we show that inter-technology interference can be recognized using commodity WiFi devices by monitoring the statistics of receiver errors. Indeed, while for WiFi standard frames the error probability varies during the frame reception in different frame fields (PHY, MAC headers, and payloads) protected with heterogeneous coding, errors may appear randomly at any point during the time the demodulator is trying to receive an exogenous interfering signal. We thus detect and identify cross-technology interference on off-the-shelf WiFi cards by monitoring the sequence of receiver errors (bad PLCP, bad FCS, invalid headers, etc.) and propose two methods to recognize the source of in…

Analysing disparity by applying combined morphological and molecular approaches to French and Japanese carabid beetles

2000

The expression of morphological disparity within a clade is related to its history and to the environmental parameters within which it develops. Recent developments in geometric morphometries allow quantitative estimation of morphological disparity, and facilitate comparisons with genetic data intended to provide phylogenetic information. Such comparisons were made between two sets of ground beetle species from regions that differ biogeographically and environmentally: 12 post-glacial reinvading species from NE France; and 15 Japanese species less likely to be affected by the Pleistocene glacial events. Genetic relationships were inferred from mitochondrial DNA (ND5 gene). Morphological div…

La Méthode como hermenéutica musical Homenaje a Edgar Morin por su 100º cumpleaños

2021

The present work addresses the principles and properties of the complex thought formulated by the French thinker Edgar Morin and the way in which he was able me to articulate his conception of organizational complexity with one of the most important theories of musical analysis, which emerged at the beginning of the 20th century: the schenkerian analysis. It is a review and extension of a few pages of my doctoral thesis, which are intended to pay tribute to who has been, in addition to my teacher, Honorary President of Itamar since its first issue. His teachings and support has always been the engine for my quest for musical organization. On July 21, 2021, Morin celebrated his 100th birthda…

N-Heterocyclic Carbenes with Inorganic Backbones: Electronic Structures and Ligand Properties

2008

The electronic structures of known N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) with boron, nitrogen, and phosphorus backbones are examined using quantum chemical methods and compared to the experimental results and to the computational data obtained for a classical carbon analogue, imidazol-2-ylidene. The σ-donor and π-acceptor abilities of the studied NHCs in selected transition-metal complexes are evaluated using a variety of approaches such as energy and charge decomposition analysis, as well as calculated acidity constants and carbonyl stretching frequencies. The study shows that the introduction of selected heteroatoms into the NHC backbone generally leads to stronger metal−carbene bonds and theref…

Electronic Structures of Main-Group Carbene Analogues

2007

The electronic structures of 15 group 13−16 carbene analogues are analyzed using various quantum chemical methods and compared to the data obtained for the parent N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC), imidazol-2-ylidene. The results of this study present a uniform analysis of the similarities and differences in the electronic structures of p-block main-group carbene analogues. Though all systems are formally isovalent, the theoretical analyses unambiguously indicate that their electronic structures run the gamut from CC localized (group 13) to CN localized (group 16) via intermediate, more delocalized, systems. In particular, neither the stibenium ion nor any of the chalcogenium dications is a dire…

A σ-Donor with a Planar Six-π-Electron B2N2C2 Framework: Anionic N-Heterocyclic Carbene or Heterocyclic Terphenyl Anion?

2006

NB! The anionic ligand 2 was synthesized through deprotonation of a planar, formally zwitterionic diazadiborine precursor, isolated as a lithium salt, and structurally characterized. According to experimental evidence and theoretical calculations, 2 can be considered as an intermediate between two classical classes of ligands: N-heterocyclic carbenes 1 and terphenyls 3. peerReviewed

Therapeutic effect of fractionated by ultrafiltration red beetroot (Beta vulgaris l.) juice in rats with food-induced fatty liver

2019

The prevalence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), being a component of metabolic syndrome, has increased (15-27%) in the industrialized world. The deep mechanism of this pathology is not clear, but it is multifactorial. There is a huge amount of food supplements and medicines with hepatoprotective effect on the market, but the NAFLD problem is far from being resolved. Hepatoprotective products have to provide wide spectra of biological effects, including antioxidant, hypolipidemic, anti-inflammatory action. It is peculiar to natural compounds, including red beetroot juice, which is well known to most of the population. This is important in view of the high prevalence of NAFLD. Th…

Position sensitive plastic scintillator for beta particle detection

2022

A new segmented plastic scintillator detector Tuike has been developed for recoil-beta tagging experiments at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä. The detector consists of individual plastic scintillator bars arranged in two orthogonal layers, and the scintillation light is detected using silicon photomultipliers. Performance of the new detector was tested using fusion-evaporation reaction 40Ca(36Ar, pn)74Rb, and the results are discussed here. It was found that for beta particles seen in the main silicon detector, Tuike can tag high-energy beta particles with a 48(10)% efficiency. An energy calibration method using Compton edges of gamma ray transitions is described i…

Investigating consumers' representations of beers through a free association task: A comparison between packaging and blind conditions

2013

International audience; Food behavior has been shown to be influenced by top-down processes such as expectations generated from the mental representations of product. Investigating how a product is represented in consumers' mind is therefore essential to a better understanding of food behavior. As traditional and typical products are particularly prone to expectation effects, these products are well suited to explore consumer's mental representations. Among traditional products, beers are certainly of interest for both product development and marketing. A free association task was conducted in two evaluation conditions. Participants were asked to state what came to their mind while evaluati…
