Robotizing meaningful work
2021
PurposeRobots have a history of replacing human labor in undesirable, dirty, dull and dangerous tasks. With robots now emerging in academic and human-centered work, this paper aims to investigate psychological implications of robotizing desirable and socially rewarding work.Design/methodology/approachTesting the holistic stress model, this study examines educational professionals’ stress responses as mediators between robotization expectations and future optimism in life. Rethinking visual art practice in relation to well-being : a conceptual analysis
2015
This study examines how the concepts related to visual art practice and well-being have been used in the arts and academic sectors. Furthermore, it studies whether it is possible to create a new theoretical and conceptual framework for research. The research material of the arts and academic sectors was examined by the methods of critical review and conceptual analysis. The conceptual analysis led to the following main results: The employment of the concepts concerning the practice of visual arts was diverse, often overlapping, and in some respects incoherent. Both the concepts of ‘art’ and ‘well-being’ were mostly used as reasoning with generalizations. This strategy of discourse was conce…
Examining mediators of change in wellbeing, stress, and depression in a blended, Internet-based, ACT intervention for university students
2020
A coach-guided Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) intervention that uses a blended approach of two face-to-face and five online sessions (iACT; N = 33) has been found to be more effective than a waiting-list control condition (WLC; N = 35) at enhancing the wellbeing of university students while also reducing stress and depression. The present study explored possible mediators of change that may account for the outcomes of the study. Mediation analyses revealed that changes in the non-reactivity subscale of mindfulness mediated changes in wellbeing, depression, and stress in the iACT group. In addition, changes in the sense of coherence subscale of meaningfulness mediated changes in all…
Mindfulness-, hyväksyntä- ja arvopohjaisen (MIHA) ohjelman vaikuttavuus työuupumusoireiden lievittäjänä : tutkimusyhteenveto Muupu-hankkeesta
2016
Subjective Well-Being in Sports Coaches
2022
<p>The purpose of the study is to analyze the structure of the psychological determinants of subjective well-being and identify the most significant set of determinants that form the resources of the psychological well-being in sports coaches. This parameter is important due to objective conditions, which significantly increases stress and reduces the quality of life of subjects of professional sport. The participants were 200 professional sports coaches (89 women, 111 men), Mage=39 years, Mexprience=12 years. The psychological determinants were measured with the Brief Differential Perfectionism Inventory (Zolotareva et al, 2021), the Gene…
Investigating teachers’ dyadic self-efficacy and its correlations to students’ perceptions of teacher efficacy and student well-being
2022
Most studies, to date, have ignored variance in teachers’ self-efficacy (TSE) in relation to teaching individual students (i.e., student-specific self-efficacy). However, TSE and teacher efficacy differ among students. Thus, this study examines dyadic TSE in four domains and their correlations with students’ perceptions of teacher efficacy and student academic self-concept and well-being. Results of a paper–pencil survey involving 29 teachers and 469 students (39.9% girls, aged 10–17 years) from German secondary schools reveal a moderate overlap between dyadic TSE and students’ perceptions of teacher efficacy. Furthermore, they reveal variance in how teachers’ and students’ ratings are rela…
A new perspective on adolescent athletes’ transition into upper secondary school : A longitudinal mixed methods study protocol
2016
The challenge of combining elite sport and education into a dual career pathway remains to be a source of concern for many high-performance athletes. Previous research findings suggest that committed participation in both domains is highly demanding and success in one pursuit often comes at the expense of the other. There are emergent studies, however, that argue for the beneficial and complementary nature of dual career pathways. Consequently, we emphasize the importance of understanding the processes underlying differences in the development of athletes’ life trajectories. This article presents a study protocol to explore new methodological and analytical approaches that may extend curren…
Gender differences in usage and user experience of Oiva App
2015
Previous research has indicated that gender is an important demographic to consider when designing effective and tailored technology interventions. Despite this need, gender differences is still an understudied topic in the field of technology interventions. The objective of this study was to study gender differences in usage and user experience of a mental wellness app called Oiva. Gender differences in the app’s effect on the participants’ mental well-being were also investigated. Oiva is a stand-alone mental wellness app that aims to increase its users’ psychological flexibility by teaching Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) based skills. The study population of the current study wa…
“Developing Capabilities”. Inclusive Extracurricular Enrichment Programs to Improve the Well-Being of Gifted Adolescents
2021
The educational inclusion of gifted students requires not only equity but also emotional accessibility and social participation. However, different studies indicate that gifted students constitute a vulnerable group (for example, the incidence of bullying is higher). Psychosocial variables are determinants for the development and expression of giftedness, particularly during adolescence. This study analyzes the impact of an inclusive extracurricular enrichment program for gifted secondary school students on the well-being of adolescents. The program was based on the enrichment model of Renzulli and Reis (2016). The objective was to develop a cluster to facilitate high-achieving learning in …
