Abstract Throughout the Mediterranean region, medicinal plants are widely used to improve health and avoid disease. Various epidemiological studies indicate that some of these plants reduce the incidence of inflammatory diseases and cancer by inducing programmed cell death, thus arresting proliferation. Several of these plant species, including saffron, capsicum, garlic, and onion, are employed for many purposes, while others, such as mistletoe, myrtle, French lavender, and rue, have more selective uses. Abstract: The presence of mycotoxigenic fungi such as Aspergillus, Penicillium, and Fusarium genera represents a problem in food preservation and consequently, its spoilage. During the fermentation process with lactic acid bacteria, a range of secondary metabolites associated with beneficial health effects were released. Symptoms, course, and complications of abdominal attacks in hereditary angioedema due to C1 inhibitor deficiency.

Recurrent abdominal attacks belong to the cardinal and most distressing symptoms of hereditary angioedema (HAE) due to C1 inhibitor deficiency. They are characterized by crampy pain, but may include vomiting, diarrhea, and other features. Detailed clinical data about the symptoms and course of abdominal attacks have not been reported.We retrospectively observed a total of 33,671 abdominal attacks in 153 patients with HAE including a prospectively examined subgroup of 23 patients. Growth and water relations of field-grown ‘Valencia’ orange trees under long-term partial rootzone drying

Bacterial growth and biological properties of Cymbopogon schoenanthus and Ziziphus lotus are modulated by extraction conditions

Abstract The present study aims to evaluate the antibacterial activity and biological properties of two traditional Saharian plants (Cymbopogon schoenanthus and Ziziphus lotus). The plant extracts were obtained by using a different combination of extraction methods (conventional vs. ultrasound-assisted) and solvents (water vs. ethanol:water (50:50, v/v)). First Report of Phytophthora palmivora on Grevillea spp. in Italy.

The genus Grevillea (family Proteaceae) comprises over 300 species and is a popular and widely cultivated group of Australian plants. In the last 3 years, numerous potted grevilleas with symptoms of decline associated with a rot of feeder roots were found in ornamental nurseries in Sicily. Aboveground symptoms were reduced growth, yellowing of foliage, wilt, dieback, and death of the entire plant.
