The pleiotropic growth factor TGFβ plays an important role in regulating responses to skin injury. TGFβ targets many different cell types and is involved in all aspects of wound healing entailing inflammation,re-epithelialization, matrix formation and remodeling. To elucidate the role of TGFβ signal transduction in keratinocytes during cutaneous wound healing, we have used transgenic mice expressing a dominant negative type II TGFβ receptor exclusively in keratinocytes. The deficiency of C1 inhibitor (C1-INH) has been recognized as the main cause of HAE (HAE-C1-INH) since the 1960s, but the discovery of the wide spectrum of mutations affecting the C1-INH gene (SERPING1) was possible only from the late 1980s, when Sanger sequencing became available and more accessible worldwide. The transcription factor c-Maf controls IL-4 gene expression in CD4(+) T cells, and its expression is up-regulated in human asthmatic airways after allergen challenge. In the present study, we addressed the role of c-Maf in asthma by studying transgenic (Tg) mice overexpressing c-Maf in CD4(+) T cells under the control of the CD2 promoter. As shown, lung CD4(+) T cells of c-maf-Tg mice produced more IL-5 at the early stage (day 2) of culture in the presence of IL-4 than wild-type control cells. Photoexcitation of rhodopsin activates a heterotrimeric G-protein cascade leading to cyclic GMP hydrolysis in vertebrate photoreceptors. Light-induced exchanges of the visual G-protein transducin between the outer and inner segment of rod photoreceptors occur through the narrow connecting cilium. Here we demonstrate that transducin colocalizes with the Ca(2+)-binding protein centrin 1 in a specific domain of this cilium.
