Background: Diabetes management apps may have positive effects on diabetes self-management. It remains unclear, however, which app features are particularly effective and encourage sustained app usage. Behavior change techniques (BCTs) and gamification are promising approaches to improve user engagement. Native-state pea albumin and globulin behavior upon transglutaminase treatment

International audience; The behavior of pea albumin (Alb) and globulin (Glob) in their native state upon microbial transglutaminase (MTGase) treatment was studied. Only Glob was able to form a gel, at up to a 10% (w/w) concentration, with a minimum gelling concentration of 6% (w/w), and with a cross-linking degree of 25%. The most affected Glob subunits were convicilin (71 kDa), vicilins (55, 50, and 35 kDa), and legumin acidic subunit (40 kDa). In contrast, the legumin basic subunit (20 kDa) and vicilins of molecular weight less than 20 kDa remained mostly intact in all studied conditions. The effect of acetate as a glucose co-substrate on growth, lysine synthesis and experimental lysine yield from carbon substrates by Corynebacterium glutamicum RC 115 was investigated. It was found that low amounts of acetate, injected with a glucose-acetate pulse into the steady-state continuous culture in bioreactor, caused a slight decrease in the specific rates of glucose uptake and bacterial growth, but a significant increase in the cell specific rate of lysine synthesis and an increase in lysine yield. The effect of mixing on glucose fermentation by Zymomonas mobilis continuous culture

Abstract The influence of mixing (in the range from 300 to 1100 rpm) on the performance of Zymomonas mobilis anaerobic continuous culture was studied. Biomass yield and ethanol productivity were improved at higher stirring intensities, in parallel with a decrease in byproduct synthesis. A mixing-dependent formation of minor amounts of fructose was first demonstrated in Z. mobilis anaerobic culture on glucose. The rate of fructose synthesis and the specific activity of the key enzyme in the pathway to fructose, phosphoglucose isomerase (EC 5.3.1.9), had a maximum at 700 rpm.

Abstract Exposure of bacterial cells to sub-lethal high pressure (HP) during growth and fermentation may promote development of new adaptive features, with potential biotechnological interest. The present work evaluated the effect of consecutive fermentation cycles under HP on Lactobacillus reuteri growth and glycerol/glucose co-fermentation. At all conditions tested (0.1, 10 and 25 MPa), 1,3-propanediol production from glycerol was enhanced over the cycles. The highest titers, yields and productivities were achieved at 10 MPa. Multilayer thin films of cationic phosphorous dendrimers and anionic hyperbranched polyglycerols were fabricated by electrostatic layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly (SA). The film formation was monitored by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy and UV-visible spectroscopy, and it was found that the stepwise, alternating deposition results in a linear growth up to four bilayers. Hybrid organic-TiO2 nanostructures were generated by exposing the supramolecular multilayers to TiCl4 precursors.
