The necessary memory: The Vida Literaria of Joaquín Lorenzo Villanueva
2012

Details from the Life of the Bonhoeffer Family: New Insights about the Biography and Theology of Dietrich Bonhoeffer in the Memoirs of his Youngest S…
2020
Just recently, the autobiography of Susanne Bonhoeffer, the younger sister of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, has been rediscovered. She has bequeathed an excellent and extensive description of her family’s life and reveals new insights about the Bonhoeffer family and the history of her time. Her work will be a substantial contribution to further research. As the editor of this challenging project, I would like to investigate how this text may affect our perception of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s biography and theology. A lot of information about Dietrich Bonhoeffer is offered in the autobiography of his sister Susanne – last but not least about his time in prison, when Susanne was sent by her family to vis…
Inquiétants dépaysements. Les voyages mélancoliques de Germaine de Staël (1803-1814)
2016
The Coppet group, a circle of thinkers around 1800, put displacement and the crossing of borders at the heart of its productions. Born out of a sense of national disaffiliation, the group plays a founding experimental role for the consciousness of the subject in travel narratives. Soliciting travel as much in the exploration of a country as in philosophy and knowledge, Germaine de Staël's De l'Allemagne is both a travel narrative and a metaphysical breviary. In a tone close to autobiography, the author observes an inner region rather than a foreign country.
Construction engineering and natural philosophy: the work by Gabriel Lamé
1995
We find Lame again, an other pupill of the “Ecole polytechnique” who considers again the analogy between the catenary and the thin vault stable under its own weight He improve the famous work of Coulomb who applies the theory of maximis and minimis to Architecture. Le scientific biography that follows shows a scientist who has been interrested in cristallography, elastic mediums, optics and heat, electricity and was convinced of the existence of a unitary theory in which an elastic ether would play a central role.
Irish Self-Portraits: The Artist in Curved Mirrors
2018
International audience; Though Ireland can pride itself on its national self-portrait collection, housed at the University of Limerick, very little research has been done on self-portrayal in Irish literature and visual arts. This absence of scientific investigation is all the more surprising as, as Marie Bourke observes, “self-portrayal is a complex act. The private nature of the task, and the intensity of self-scrutiny that it entails, has challenged artists through the ages. It’s not just a question of self-examination, but a process recording a likeness, the depiction of a psychological state, or social status, or the representation of abstract ideas” (Marie Bourke, Exploring Art at the…
