A New Systematic Classification of Peripheral Anatomy of the Right Hepatic Duct: Experience From Adult Live Liver Donor Transplantation

Abstract Objective The peripheral intrahepatic biliary anatomy, especially at the sectorial level on the right side, has not been adequately described. The purpose of our study was to systematically describe this complex anatomy in clinically applicable fashion. Patients and Methods We analyzed three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) imaging reconstructions of 139 potential living liver donors evaluated at our institution between January 2003 and June 2007. Results Eighty-nine (64%) donors had a normal right bile duct sectorial anatomy. Inhibition of human detrusor contraction by a urothelium derived factor.

Stimulating muscarinic receptors in pig bladder urothelium causes the release of a diffusable factor that inhibits contractions of the underlying detrusor muscle. We investigated whether the contractions of human detrusor strips elicited by the muscarinic agonist carbachol, electrical field stimulation, KCl or the neurokinin receptor agonist neurokinin A are affected by the urothelium.Paired intact and urothelium denuded muscle strips were placed in modified gassed Tyrode's solution at 37C. Permeability of the rat bladder to Cisplatinum under different conditions: comparison with Mitomycin C and Adriamycin.

In 50 female Sprague-Dawley rats the absorption of Cisplatinum through the bladder wall was studied. Under different conditions, including cystitis and electrocoagulation of the bladder mucosa, the absorption was low and the measureable serum concentrations did not exceed 2.64 micrograms/ml. The influence of Tween 80--a non-ionic surfactant--on the absorption is investigated. The results are compared with those found for Adriamycin and Mitomycin C under identical conditions.

While acetylcholine (ACh) and muscarinic receptors in the bladder are mainly known for their role in the regulation of smooth muscle contractility, in other tissues they are involved in tissue remodelling and promote cell growth and proliferation.
