Exploring the common blockchain adoption enablers: the case of three Italian wineries
2021
Purpose This study aims to explore and describe the main enabling factors affecting the implementation of blockchain technology (BCT) in a strategic sector such as the wine industry, as well as the motivation behind this choice. Design/methodology/approach In light of the novelty of the phenomenon studied, a case study approach was adopted analyzing three Italian wineries. A conceptual framework, based on the dynamic capabilities, absorptive capacity and dominant logic theories, was developed. Primary and secondary data were collected. Findings Results show that wineries working in a highly dynamic and competitive market invest more in knowledge acquisition and internal assimilation and le…
Effect of depth of neuromuscular blockade on the abdominal space during pneumoperitoneum establishment in laparoscopic surgery.
2015
To evaluate the effect of neuromuscular blockade (NMB) upon the abdominal space during pneumoperitoneum establishment in laparoscopic surgery, comparing moderate NMB and deep NMB.Prospective, randomized, crossover clinical trial.Operating room.Seventy-six American Society of Anesthesiologists 1 to 2 patients scheduled for elective laparoscopic surgery. Two independent evaluations were performed at the establishment of pneumoperitoneum for a preset intraabdominal pressures (IAPs) of 8 and 12 mm Hg, both during moderate NMB (train-of-four count, 1-3) and deep NMB (posttetanic count,5). Rocuronium was used to induce NMB, and sugammadex was used for reversal. We evaluated (i) the volume of CO2 in…
New dynamics in doped fiber laser cavity : self organization and scale laws
2017
Non-linear effects, which depend essentially on the intensity of the electric field of the wave and the guide, are essential for the generation of pulse regimes in doped fiber lasers. The Kerr effect, which occurs regardless of the propagation and pumping energy, will generate the phenomenon of phase auto modulation (SPM), which will result in a spectral expansion. The SPM can also be seen in the interaction between the two waves that propagate along the slow and fast axes of the guide (XPM). In a passive uniform guide, this self-phase modulation in combination with the chromatic dispersion of the guide can lead to the soliton pulse, but this framework must be largely overcome to address pu…
Magnon and Phonon Excitations in Nanosized NiO
2019
Single-crystal, microcrystalline and nanocrystalline nickel oxides (NiO) have been studied by Raman spectroscopy. A new band at ~200 cm-1 and TO-LO splitting of the band at 350–650 cm-1 have been found in the spectra of single-crystals NiO(100), NiO(110) and NiO(111). The Raman spectra of microcrystalline (1500 nm) and nanocrystalline (13–100 nm) NiO resemble those of the single crystals. They all contain the two-magnon band at 1500 cm-1, indicating that the oxides remain at room temperature in the antiferromagnetic phase. Besides, a new sharp Raman band has been observed at 500 cm-1 in nanocrystalline NiO. Its temperature dependence suggests the magnetic origin of the band, possibly associ…
Left bundle branch block and myocardial infarction, a diagnosis not always easy: Our experience and review of literature
2012
The occurrence of left bundle branch block (LBBB) is quite common in clinical practice. The changes in cardiac repolarization, caused by this disorder of electric conduction, may mask the presence of an acute myocardial infarction (AMI), delaying the diagnostic-therapeutic iter, with an important impact on prognosis. We describe the case of a woman of 59 years with LBBB, came to our observation for a constrictive chest pain associated with dyspnea. The diagnostic workup for suspected acute coronary syndrome (ACS), initially conducted only on the analysis of the electrocardiogram (negative TnI at entry), showed the presence of coronary arteries free of stenosis. However, the diagnostic confi…
ChemInform Abstract: Chemoenzymatic-Chemical Synthesis of a (2-3)-Sialyl T Threonine Building Block and Its Application to the Synthesis of the N-Ter…
2010
Protection of all functional groups of the carbohydrate portion of the chemoenzymatically synthesized sialyl T threonine ester 1 (R=R1 =H, R2 =tBu, Fmoc=9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl) and subsequent acidolysis of the tert-butyl ester afforded the building block 2 (R=Ac, R1 =Me, R2 =H). The latter is a useful tool in the solid-phase synthesis of the N-terminal sequence 3 of the leukemia-associated leukosialin.
EU dissemination of the provisional ultra-low-temperature scale, PLTS-2000
2003
Following the introduction of the provisional low-temperature scale from 0.9 mK to 1K, PLTS-2000, there is a need for primary and secondary thermometers and fixed points, which can disseminate the scale to users. This paper reports on the progress, within the EU collaborative project ‘ULT Dissemination’, in the development and evaluation of several devices with associated instrumentation. Principal among them are a current-sensing noise thermometer, a CMN thermometer adapted for industrial use, a Coulomb blockade thermometer, a second-sound thermometer, a 3He melting pressure thermometer for a direct realisation of the PLTS-2000. A superconductive reference device has also been developed, a…
Potassium-inhibited processing of IL-1 beta in human monocytes.
1995
Agents that deplete cells of K+ without grossly disrupting the plasma membrane were found to stimulate the cleavage of pro-interleukin (IL)-1 beta to mature IL-1 beta. Agents examined in this study included staphylococcal alpha-toxin and gramicidin, both of which selectively permeabilize plasma membranes for monovalent ions, the ionophores nigericin and valinomycin, and the Na+/K+ ATPase inhibitor ouabain. K+ depletion by brief hypotonic shock also triggered processing of pro-IL-1 beta. The central role of K+ depletion for inducing IL-1 beta maturation was demonstrated in cells permeabilized with alpha-toxin: processing of pro-IL-1 beta was totally blocked when cells were suspended in mediu…
Blocks to, and building blocks of, narrativity: Fragments, anecdotes, and narrative lines in David Markson’sReader’s block
2017
AbstractDavid Markson’sReader’s block(1996) consists of 193 pages of quotations, anecdotes, names, and fragments. The book bears the paratext “A novel,” and the work has indeed been read as a narrative whole, in which “an aging author [...] contemplates the writing of a novel.” By being out of ordinary and therefore worth of telling, the anecdotes or curiosities seemingly fulfill the requirements of a “natural” narrative as defined by Monika Fludernik (1996). However, a mass of such mini-narratives, mixed with even more fragmentary texts, seems to defy narrativity (and tellability). In my reading, the ostensive block to narrativity also functions as its very building block. Thanks to polyse…
Blockchain review for battery supply chain monitoring and battery trading
2022
The use of technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), data processing and blockchain have allowed companies to serve their customers with better quality, efficiency, reliability and in the shortest possible time. The growing adoption of electric vehicles on the market has increased the demand for batteries that may have numerous manufacturers. Life expectancy is affected on manufacture, but also on operational conditions. A large number of parameters have a role on battery's health and thousands of data need to be evaluated and combined. The present work investigates the scenario of the battery industry in order to implement a blockchain-based platform for the supply chain implementatio…
