Although vitamin D synthesis in the skin declines with age, exposure to sunlight still seems to help older-aged adults to achieve adequate serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) levels. 200 g schwere Ratten erhielten Losungen von14C-Coffein entweder nuchtern oder nach vorheriger Verabreichung von Kohlenhydrat, Eiweis und Fett. Die Nahrungszufuhr bedingte folgende Anderungen der Coffeinverteilung im Organismus gegenuber den nuchternen Tieren: die Coffeinresorption war deutlich verzogert, so das die14C-Aktivitatswerte im Serum und Carcass nur langsam anstiegen. Im weiteren Verlauf des Versuches erreichte der Abfall der14C-Aktivitat in Serum und Carcass und ihre Ausscheidung im Harn ein geringeres Ausmas.

Dieser Befund wird vergleichend mit den Ergebnissen bei Gesunden und anderen Hautkranken diskutiert und als psoriasistypisches, nicht aber psoriasisspezifisches Phanomen gewertet, fur dessen Zustandekommen auf Grund der bisherigen Untersuchungen eine Erklarung nicht gegeben werden kann, wenngleich im Hinblick auf das Vorkommen von Pentosen in pathologisch veranderter Psoriasis-Haut zu diesem, den Pentose-Cyclus einleitenden Enzym eine hypothetische Verbindung gegeben scheint.

Zur Frage des Einflusses der Geschlechtshormone auf den Eisen- und Kupferhaushalt wurden Patienten mit Klinefelter-, Turner-Syndrom und Hypogonadismus untersucht. Wir bestimmten im Serum den Eisen- und Kupferspiegel, die Eisenbindungskapazitat und das Caeruloplasmin. In Tierexperimenten wurden weibliche und mannliche Ratten kastriert. 3–42 Tage nach der Operation fuhrten wir die oben genannten Serumuntersuchungen durch. Gleichzeitig wurde in der Leber, der Milz und im Dunndarm der Gehalt an Eisen und Kupfer ermittelt. Die Eisenausscheidung in den Faeces wurde gemessen. Pathogenesis-related group 10 protein (PR-10) molecules are a family of allergenic proteins shared by many pollens (eg, birch and alder) and foods (eg, apple, peach, and soy). IMMUNOCHEMICAL studies carried out by D'Alessandro et al. 1 on a non-pathogenic, culturable treponeme, the so-called Reiter treponeme, revealed the presence of four antigenic components: (1) a thermolabile protein; (2) a specific, thermostable antigen with polysaccharide characteristics; (3) a lipoid, corresponding to the ubiquitous lipidic antigen cardiolipin; (4) another lipoid similar to the organ-specific cerebral antigen of Witebsky2. These studies led to the conclusion that the treponemes, like other organisms, are mosaics of antigens, and a safe basis was established for a better understanding of the complex serological response of the infected host.

Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide, causing nearly one million deaths each year. Herein, we present the effect of 2-methoxyestradiol (2-ME), the endogenous metabolite of 17β-estradiol (E2), on non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. We observed that 2-ME reduced the viability of lung adenocarcinoma in two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) spheroidal A549 cell culture models. Molecular modeling was carried out aiming to visualize amino acid residues within binding pockets of the acyl-protein thioesterases, namely 1 (APT1) and 2 (APT2), and thus to identify which ones were more likely involved in the interaction with 2-ME.
