Short X···N Halogen Bonds With Hexamethylenetetraamine as the Acceptor

Hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) and N-haloimides form two types of short (imide)X···N and X–X···N (X = Br, I) halogen bonds. Nucleophilic substitution or ligand-exchange reaction on the peripheral X of X–X···N with the chloride of N-chlorosuccinimide lead to Cl–X···N halogen-bonded complexes. The 1:1 complexation of HMTA and ICl manifests the shortest I···N halogen bond [2.272(5) Å] yet reported for an HMTA acceptor. Two halogen-bonded organic frameworks are prepared using 1:4 molar ratio of HMTA and N-bromosuccinimide, each with a distinct channel shape, one possessing oval and the other square grid. N-(2,3,5,6-Tetrafluoropyridyl)sulfoximines: synthesis, X-ray crystallography, and halogen bonding

In the presence of KOH, NH-sulfoximines react with pentafluoropyridine to give N-(tetrafluoropyridyl)sulfoximines (NTFP-sulfoximines) in moderate to excellent yields. Either a solution-based or a superior solvent-free mechanochemical protocol can be followed. X-Ray diffraction analyses of 26 products provided insight into the bond parameters and conformational rigidity of the molecular scaffold. In solid-state structures, sulfoximines with halo substituents on the S-bound arene are intermolecularly linked by C–X⋯OS (X = Cl, Br) halogen bonds. Copper(II) and platinum(II) complexes of 2-benzoylpyrrole (2-BZPH) were synthesized and characterized with IR, 1 H and 1 3 C NMR spectroscopies and coordination geometry with ligands arranged in transoid fashion. The crystal structure of [Cu I I (2-BZP) 2 ] was determined by X-ray diffraction. Death of complex treated Jurkat cells was measured by flow cytometry. The bis-chelate complexes [Cu I I (2-BZP) 2 ] and [Pt I I (2-BZP) 2 ] adopt square-planar coordination geometry with ligands, arranged in transoid fashion. Solid microcrystalline dispersion films as a new strategy to improve the dissolution rate of poorly water soluble drugs: A case study using olanzapine

In this study, we evaluate the dissolution rate enhancement of solid microcrystalline dispersion (SMD) films of olanzapine (OLZ) formulated with four water-soluble polymers namely poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP), poloxamer 188 (P188), poloxamer 407 (P407) and Soluplus(®) (SLP). Prepared formulations were characterised to determine particle size, morphology, hydrogen bonding interactions, thermal characteristics as well as in vitro dissolution studies conducted under sink conditions (pH 6.8). Ionic liquid crystals based on viologen dimers: tuning the mesomorphism by varying the conformational freedom of the ionic layer

ABSTRACTWe investigated the liquid crystal behaviour of newly synthesised bistriflimide salts of symmetric viologen dimers. A smectic A phase was observed for intermediate spacer lengths and for relatively long lateral alkyl chains. The systems were characterised by thermal analysis, polarised optical microscopy, X-ray scattering and solid-state NMR. An intermediate ordered smectic phase was also exhibited by the compounds (except for systems with very short lateral chains) consisting of molten layers of alkyl chains and partially ordered ionic layers. Negative thermal expansion in cuprite-type compounds: A combined synchrotron XRPD, EXAFS, and computational study of Cu2O and Ag2O

Cuprite-type oxides (Cu2O and Ag2O) are framework structures composed by two interpenetrated networks of metal-sharing M4O tetrahedra (M = Cu, Ag). Both compounds exhibit a peculiar negative thermal expansion (NTE) behaviour over an extended temperature range (9 240 K for Cu2O, 30-470 K for Ag2O). High-accuracy synchrotron powder diffraction and EXAFS measurements were performed from 10 K up to the decomposition temperature to understand the nature of the NTE effects.
