Study of percolation and clustering in supercritical water-CO2 mixtures
2008
The microscopic structure of supercritical water-CO(2) mixture is investigated by neutron diffraction experiments exploiting the isotopic HD substitution. The investigated water reach mixtures are in the liquidlike region of the phase diagram, according to the behavior of the radial distribution functions, yet a reduction of the average number of hydrogen bonds, compared to equivalent states of pure water, is found. As a consequence, the average dimension of water clusters is reduced and the system stays below the percolation threshold. These results, along with the shift of the main peaks of the site-site radial distribution functions, suggest that the excess volume in these supercritical …
Crystal structure and IR spectrum of 1-O-α-d-glucopyranosyl-d-mannitol–ethanol (2/1)
1999
Abstract 1- O - α - d -Glucopyranosyl- d -mannitol–ethanol (2/1), (C 12 H 24 O 11 ) 2 –C 2 H 5 OH, crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2 1 with unit cell dimensions a =11.4230(8) A, b =9.525(4) A, c =15.854(2) A, β =102.751(7)° and V =1682.4(7) A 3 , Z =2, D x =1.45 Mg m −3 , λ (Mo-K α )=0.71069 A, μ=0.128 mm −1 , F (000)=788 and T =293(2) K. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined by least-squares calculations on F 2 to R 1 =0.0371[ I >2 σ ( I )], and 0.0930 (all data, 3542 independent reflections, R int =0.021). There are two molecules of glucopyranosylmannitol (GPM) and one ethanol molecule in the asymmetric unit, and the glucopyranosyl ring adopts a chair conforma…
Structural and electronic contributions to hyperpolarizability in methyl p-hydroxy benzoate
2006
Abstract The single crystals of methyl p-hydroxy benzoate (MPHB) are grown from methanol solution by a low temperature solution growth technique. The SHG efficiency is tested using Q-switched Nd:YAG laser of wavelength λ at 1064 nm, which is approximately 1.2 times that of urea. Vibrational spectral analysis using NIR-FT Raman and FT-IR spectra is carried out to understand the structural and electronic contributions to hyperpolarizability in MPHB. The DFT computations are also performed at B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) level to derive equilibrium geometry, vibrational wavenumbers and intensities. The results of ab initio calculations at HF/6-311G(d,p) level show that the vibrational contribution for th…

Raman spectroscopy of acetic acid monomer and dimers isolated in solid argon
2011
Acetic acid (AA) monomer and its dimers were studied by means of Raman spectroscopy combined with the matrix isolation technique. All fundamental bands of CH3COOH monomer were identified, including the CH3 torsional mode. Additionally, three overtone or combination modes were observed as a result of their enhanced intensities by Fermi resonance (FR). Twenty bands of the cyclic dimer (C2h) were identified and assigned, among which appear all intermolecular modes. Bands due to two different higher energy forms of the dimer were also identified. The experimental assignments are supported by ab initio calculations. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
The crystal and molecular structures of hexaquocobalt(II) diisonicotinate N-oxide and its isostructural nickel(II) homologue
1981
Abstract In this experiment the crystal and molecular structures of hexaaquocobalt(II)diisonicotinate N-oxide were determined from three-dimensional X-ray diffraction dat. The crystals belong to the monoclinic space group P2 1 /c. The cell parameters are a = 7.74(2), b = 9.826(2), c = 11.474(2) A , β = 91.08(2)°, V = 873.2(3) A 3 for the Co-complex, and a = 7.765(2), b = 9.725(6), c = 11.363 A , β = 91.20(3)°, V = 857.9(7) A 3 for the Ni-complex. Both structures were refined to a final R-value of 0.045. The X-ray structure analysis showed that there are metal(II)hexaquo cations and isonicotinate N-oxide anions formulated as Co(H 2 O) 6 2+ 2L − and Ni(H 2− O) 6 2+ 2L − in the structures. The…
Crystal and molecular structure and electronic properties of [Cu(phen)2(HL)] · (phen)0.5 · 7H2O (H3L = 1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione), a nove…
1998
Abstract The crystal and molecular structure of [Cu(phen)2(HL) · (phen)0.5 · 7H2O (H2L = 1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione) has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The structure is built up of neutral [Cu(phen)2(HL)] entities (which are associated to form dinuclear units through hydrogen bonds involving the cyanurate ions), uncoordinated phenanthroline and crystallisation water molecules. The copper atom is involved in a CuN5 chromophore, with an stereochemistry near to a compressed trigonal bipyramid (TBP) but with a significant degree of distortion towards the square pyramidal (SP) topology. The EPR spectrum is indicative of a mixed d z 2 d x 2 −y 2 ground state for the copp…
Effect of hydrogen bonds on polarizability of a water molecule in (H2O)(N) (N = 6, 10, 20) isomers.
2010
Abstract: Polarizabilities of the low-lying isomers of (H2O)N (N = 6, 10, 20) clusters were computed by using Density Functional Theory. The global polarizabilities of the water isomers were found to depend mainly on the total number of water molecules rather than their cluster structures. We show that this result hides in fact a strong heterogeneity of the molecular polarizability within the different isomers. The global polarizability of a cluster was divided into a sum of molecular contributions by using the Hirshfeld partitioning scheme. We reveal that the value of the local polarizability of a molecule in the cluster is correlated with the number and type of the hydrogen bonds (HB) the…
Binding Modes of Nonspherical Anions to N-Alkylammonium Resorcinarenes in the Solid State
2012
A series of hydrogen bond stabilized N-alkylammonium resorcinarene salts with nitrate, triflate, and picrate as the counteranions were synthesized and characterized with 1H NMR and electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry. Together with electrostatic interactions, the binding of the anions with several hydrogen bond donor sites proceeds through a complex array of intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonds, evidenced by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. These N-alkyl ammonium resorcinarenes bind the larger nonspherical anions into deformed cavitand-like structures and enforce a transformation of the resorcinarene conformation from almost symmetrical to extremely distorted.

2014
Metal-free regioselective activation of a carbon–carbon bond in 1,3,5-triazine derivatives of β-diketones is easily achieved, in the absence of a catalyst, with the assistance of intramolecular hydrogen bonding.
