Some observations on the determination of sulfite by reduction to sulfide with sodium borohydride

Abstract Sodium borohydride is studied as an agent for reducing sulfite to sulfide. Rapid reductions are attained with greater than 97% recovery in the range 700–1200 μg of S/50 ml. Sulfate is not reduced.

Preparation of N,O-Aminals as Synthetic Equivalents of H2C=NAr and (H2C=NHAr)+ Ions: Neutral and Acid-promoted Transformations

A general method for the synthesis of N,O-aminals derived from primary aromatic amines is described. The reactivity of these compounds under neutral and acidic conditions has been studied and the title compounds can be envisaged as general purpose H2C=NAr or (H2C=NHAr)+ equivalents. N,O-Aminals have been converted into perhydrotriazines by moderate heating and into bis(4-aminoaryl) methane derivatives or N-benzylarylamines, respectively when heated in acidic media with pH control. Reduction of N, O-acetals with sodium cyanoborohydride has revealed that the C-O bond is broken exclusively in acidic media.

Mischungen der Acrylsaureester phenolischer Mehrkernverbindungen sowie zunachst unveresterter Verbindungen wurden einer synthetischen Matrizenreaktion unterworfen. Die so erhaltenen Verbindungsgemische liesen sich mit Lithiumborhydrid reduzierend spalten, so das neben den wiedergewonnenen phenolischen Mehrkernverbindungen Oligoallylalkoholmischungen entstanden. Deren Konzentrationsverhaltnisse waren mit einer geringen Streuung die gleichen wie jene der Acrylsaureester oder der phenolischen Mehrkernverbindungen in den Ausgangsmischungen. Uranium( iv ) cyclobutadienyl sandwich compounds: synthesis, structure and chemical bonding

The 1 : 1 reactions of uranium(IV) tetrakis(borohydride) with the sodium and potassium salts of the cyclobutadienyl anion [C4(SiMe3)4]2− (Cb′′′′) produce the half-sandwich complexes [Na(12-crown-4)2][U(η4-Cb′′′′)(BH4)3] and [U(η4-Cb′′′′)(μ-BH4)3{K(THF)2}]2. In the 1 : 2 reaction of U(BH4)4 with Na2Cb′′′′, formation of [U(η4-Cb′′′′)(η3-C4H(SiMe3)3-κ-(CH2SiMe2)(BH4))]− reveals that a Cb′′′′ ligand undergoes an intramolecular deprotonation, resulting in an allyl/tuck-in bonding mode. A computational study reveals that the uranium–Cb′′′′ bonding has an appreciable covalent component with contributions from the uranium 5f and 6d orbitals. peerReviewed

In the structure of title borohydride pincer complex, [Co(BH4)(C16H37NP2)(CO)], the cobalt(I) metal exhibits a distorted square-pyramidal coordination geometry with the basal positions occupied by the P and N atoms of the tridentate ligand and by the C atom of the carbon monoxide ligand. In the crystal, molecules interact only by van der Waals forces.

Among the borohydrides proposed for solid state hydrogen storage,Ca(BH4)2 is particularly interesting because of its favourable thermodynamics and relatively cheap price.Composite systems,whereother species are present in addition to the borohydride,show some advantages in hydrogen sorption properties with respect to the borohydrides alone,despite a reduction of the theoretical storage capacity.
