As far as architecture is concerned, boundaries are not standing-alone entities. They rather act in systems. This is of paramount importance when looking at the complex overlapping of different and heterogeneous boundaries within physical space. The paper emphasizes and focus on this issue, using some architectural theoretical speculations over centuries as well as examples taken from art and philosophy.
Existence and uniqueness for Prandtl equations and zero viscosity limit of the Navier-Stokes equations

The existence and uniqueness of the mild solution of the boundary layer (BL) equation is proved assuming analyticity of the data with respect to the tangential variable. Moreover we use the well-posedness of the BL equation to perform an asymptotic expansion of the Navier-Stokes equations on a bounded domain.
Bounded and unbounded solutions for a class of quasi-linear elliptic problems with a quadratic gradient term

Abstract Our aim in this article is to study the following nonlinear elliptic Dirichlet problem: − div [a(x,u)·∇u]+b(x,u,∇u)=f, in Ω; u=0, on ∂Ω; where Ω is a bounded open subset of RN, with N>2, f∈L m (Ω) . Under wide conditions on functions a and b, we prove that there exists a type of solution for this problem; this is a bounded weak solution for m>N/2, and an unbounded entropy solution for N/2>m⩾2N/(N+2). Moreover, we show when this entropy solution is a weak one and when can be taken as test function in the weak formulation. We also study the summability of the solutions.

Let f be a conformal mapping of a bounded Jordan domain D in the complex plane onto the unit disk . This paper examines the consequences for the local geometry of D near a boundary point z 0 of the mapping f-or, to be more precise, of the homeomorphic extension of this mapping to the closure of D—satisfying a Holder condition at z 0 or, alternatively, of its inverse satisfying a Holder condition at the point f(z 0). In particular, the compatibility of Holder conditions with the presence of cusps in the boundary of D is investigated.

Time-dependent asymmetric traveling salesman problem with time windows: Properties and an exact algorithm

Abstract In this paper, we deal with the Time-Dependent Asymmetric Traveling Salesman Problem with Time Windows. First, we prove that under special conditions the problem can be solved as an Asymmetric Traveling Salesman Problem with Time Windows, with suitable-defined time windows and (constant) travel times. Second, we show that, if the special conditions do not hold, the time-independent optimal solution provides both a lower bound and (eventually) an upper bound with a worst-case guarantee for the Time-Dependent Asymmetric Traveling Salesman Problem with Time Windows. It has been demonstrated that the spectrum of fluorescence emission is dependent on leaf temperature, thus there is a need for thermal information in order to interpret fluorescence signals. Temperature is also related to transpiration and stomata closure, which affects CO2 uptake and fluorescence. Therefore temperature measurements help to confirm the trends observed in fluorescence measurements. While fluorescence is immediately and uniquely related to photosynthesis, temperature provides additional information about plant status and instantaneous energy/water fluxes between plants and the atmosphere. [EN] In this paper we prove the existence of strong solutions for the stationary Benard-Marangoni problem in a finite domain flat on the top, bifurcating from the basic heat conductive state. The Benard-Marangoni problem is a physical phenomenon of thermal convection in which the effects of buoyancy and surface tension are taken into account. AbstractGiven a prescribed boundary of a Bezier surface, we compare the Bezier surfaces generated by two different methods, i.e., the Bezier surface minimising the biharmonic functional and the unique Bezier surface solution of the biharmonic equation with prescribed boundary. Although often the two types of surfaces look visually the same, we show that they are indeed different. In this paper, we provide a theoretical argument showing why the two types of surfaces are not always the same.
