El legado de las voces y los escritos: su valor como testimonio de la cultura escolar

2020

ABSTRACT The article analyzes the ways by which the voices and writings from the past, both those that have reached us as those that we still can obtain from living people, may contribute in a special way to the knowledge and interpretation of school culture from the past. We argue they make a very important and valuable historical and educational heritage, which must be saved and availed. The potentialities and values of these resources, "egodocuments", are indicated through it, and also their problems, as well as the limitations and cautions to be considerated by the researcher. Several aspects are reviewed and analyzed through the entire work: the “testimonies”' value as an object of int…

Family business internationalisation and networks: emerging pathways

2017

Purpose The aim of this study is twofold: to provide a meta-synthesis of the current state of knowledge in family business (FB) internationalisation research, adopting a network perspective, and to highlight emerging themes that may set the stage for future work on FB internationalisation, for the benefit of researchers adopting a network perspective. Design/methodology/approach To address the twofold purpose of the study, the current paper provides a state-of-the-art review of 25 peer-reviewed journal articles published from 1993 to 2014. This study also presents a meta-synthesis of the theoretical approaches, key findings and concepts that were pinpointed in the review, and proposes emer…

Culture – A Value of Public Management

2014

Abstract Culture has become the most dynamic component of our civilization. This dynamism, the search for new forms and means of expression, is the result as well as the engine of the “knowledge society”. Any analytical approach of cultural policies of European countries must be based on recognition and measurement of changes in political, economic and social field that brought the end of the second millennium: globalization and European integration.

A shifting yet grounded transnational social field: Interplays of displacement and emplacement in African migrant trajectories across Central America

2021

In this article, we draw on the volatile complexity of African migrant trajectories in Central America to broaden the scope of transnational scholarship. These trajectories are characterised by mobilities as well as immobilities, taking shape in particular local contexts. By focusing on the interplays between displacement and emplacement that are part of these trajectories, we aim to increase our understanding of the extent to which migrants still ‘on the move’ experience both temporal embeddedness and cross-border connectedness, thereby acknowledging and unravelling transnational lives as they ‘touch the ground’ en route. To do so, we build on long-standing scholarly commitments in Central…

The political, legal and moral scope of the universal declaration of human rights: pending issues

2018

With the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a new era began in the recognition and guarantee of human rights in the international area. However, since the moment of its approval, this text has received negative evaluations designed to relegate it to the background. The responses to these criticisms allow us to review their political and legal scope, and put it in value as a reference model in the field of human rights, delving into the pending issues to strengthen it. This is intended, on the seventieth anniversary of the Declaration, to insist that this remains an essential bridge to clarify standards that can serve as a basis for discussion between different cultures a…

Institutionalisation in professional freestyle snowboarding – Finnish professional riders’ perceptions

2014

AbstractBy employing W. Richard Scott’s neo-institutional tools this study examines how Finnish professional snowboarders perceive the possibilities of self-expression amid the changes that have taken place in the field of professional snowboarding in recent years. The results indicate that snowboarders perceive competitions and filming or photo shoots as two different subfields in which different institutional elements are emphasised. Both subfields play a strong role in marketing the sponsor and the riders appear to have adopted their role in this system well. However, the pro snowboarders express concern about the regularisation of courses, styles and formats of the competitions and the …

Sustainable Higher Education and Technology-Enhanced Learning (TEL)

2018

The field of education is not immune to advances in sophisticated information and communication technology (ICT). Going beyond the ICT-hype, the objective of this paper is to examine to what extent and how technology-enhanced teaching and learning (TEL) can enhance teaching and learning and, hence, turn them into levers of sustainable socio-economic growth and development. To address these questions, a multidimensional survey was developed and distributed internationally to lecturers/professors active in the field of higher education. The initial point of departure for this study was consistent with the well-referenced in the literature thesis that TEL has profound value added in view of en…

New Technologies and Purchase Behaviour. An Analysis of the Determinant Variables in M-Shopping.

2009

Despite of the growing importance of mobile shopping in a lot of countries, there is still a lack of research work in this field. This paper aims to make an approximation of the M-shopper profile and identify the variables influencing purchase behaviour. Findings obtained from a representative sample of 2,343 Spanish Internet users show that the M-shopping decision can be predicted according to consumer age and experience as Internet user and shopper.
