Über eine eichung eines 7.5 × 7.5 cm - NaJ(Tl) - Vollkristalls zur absolutzählung flächenförmiger präparate
1966
Abstract The photopeak efficiency and the peak-to-total ratio for a 7.5 × 7.5 cm solid NaI(Tl)-crystal are determined in the range of 0.145–1.33 MeV. The disintegration rates of the disc sources used are known by 4 πβ -and 4 πβ - γ -coincidence measurements. The effect of the disc diameter and the distance source-crystal on the photopeak efficiency is studied thoroughly. The data obtained are compared with those of other authors. The evaluation of the photopeak area is performed in a frequency diagram, a special type of probability scale, in which both parts of the Gaussian curve are represented by straight lines. Hence, corrections for the Compton overlap, bremsstrahlung and background can…

Electron heating, time evolution of bremsstrahlung and ion beam current in electron cyclotron resonance ion sources
2010
This thesis is a study of Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source (ECRIS) plasmas and their properties. The focus has been on time evolution studies of bremsstrahlung emission, ion beam current production and numerical studies of electron heating in ECRIS plasmas. The time scales for reaching steady state bremsstrahlung production at electron energies greater than 30 keV is shown to be on the order of several hundreds of milliseconds. The ion beam currents of different elements are shown to reach steady state before the bremsstrahlung production. It is also demonstrated that by tuning the RF pulse patterns, the so-called preglow transient ion beam currents can be utilized while the amount o…
Long range rapidity correlations and the ridge in A+A collisions
2009
We discuss results for n-gluon correlations that form the basis of the Glasma flux tube picture of early times in heavy ion collisions. Our formalism is valid to all orders in perturbation theory at leading logarithmic accuracy in x and includes both QCD bremsstrahlung and the many body screening and recombination effects that are important at large parton densities. Long range rapidity correlations, as seen in the near-side ridge in heavy ion collisions, are a chronometer of these early time strong color field dynamics. They also contain information on how radial flow develops in heavy ion collisions.
Direct photon production in Pb–Pb collisions atsNN=2.76 TeV
2016
Direct photon production at mid-rapidity in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV was studied in the transverse momentum range 0.9<pT<14 GeV/c. Photons were detected with the highly segmented electromagnetic calorimeter PHOS and via conversions in the ALICE detector material with the e+e− pair reconstructed in the central tracking system. The results of the two methods were combined and direct photon spectra were measured for the 0–20%, 20–40%, and 40–80% centrality classes. For all three classes, agreement was found with perturbative QCD calculations for pT≳5 GeV/c. Direct photon spectra down to pT≈1 GeV/c could be extracted for the 20–40% and 0–20% centrality classes. The significance of th…
Study of intrinsic energy dependence of α-alanine and dose intercomparison with ESR and ISE techniques
1993
Abstract The intrinsic energy behavior of the radiation chemical yields G(R·) and G(NH3) which determine the dose response for the alanine/ESR and alanine/Ion-Selective Electrode (ISE) system, is an important characteristic for the consistent use in different radiation environments. Therefore, the response of ISS and Gent α-alanine dosimeters in the dose range 0.1 to 700 kGy was examined with 60Co, bremsstrahlung and electron beam radiation. Bremsstrahlung beams with end point energy between 5 and 12 MeV and electron beams with mean energy at the effective point of measurement between 4 and 25 MeV were used. Analysis of the 60Co calibration results shows that there are no significant differ…
Investigation of the Electromagnetic Radiation Emitted by Sub-GeV Electrons in a Bent Crystal.
2015
The radiation emitted by 855 MeV electrons via planar channeling and volume reflection in a $30.5\text{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\mu}\mathrm{m}$-thick bent Si crystal has been investigated at the MAMI (Mainzer Mikrotron) accelerator. The spectral intensity was much more intense than for an equivalent amorphous material, and peaked in the MeV range in the case of channeling radiation. Differently from a straight crystal, also for an incidence angle larger than the Lindhard angle, the spectral intensity remains nearly as high as for channeling. This is due to volume reflection, for which the intensity remains high at a large incidence angle over the whole angular acceptance, which is equal t…
Differential cross section for the reaction 2H(γ, p)n from 133 to 158 MeV
1991
The cross section for the reaction 2H(γ, p)n has been measured at laboratory photon energies Eγ = 133−158 MeV and c.m. angles between 30° and 150°. The reaction was induced by a tagged bremsstrahlung photon beam incident on a liquid deuterium target. The uncertainty in the absolute cross sections is ⩽ 5%. There is now reasonable agreement between recent measurements in this energy region and the overall data set now defines the cross section sufficiently well to provide a test of current models of the reaction.
Evidence for thermal equilibration in multifragmentation reactions probed with bremsstrahlung photons
2001
The production of nuclear bremsstrahlung photons (E$_{\gamma}>$ 30 MeV) has been studied in inclusive and exclusive measurements in four heavy-ion reactions at 60{\it A} MeV. The measured photon spectra, angular distributions and multiplicities indicate that a significant part of the hard-photons are emitted in secondary nucleon-nucleon collisions from a thermally equilibrated system. The observation of the thermal component in multi-fragment $^{36}$Ar+$^{197}$Au reactions suggests that the breakup of the thermalized source produced in this system occurs on a rather long time-scale.
Plasma diagnostic tools for ECR ion sources : What can we learn from these experiments for the next generation sources
2019
International audience; The order-of-magnitude performance leaps of ECR ion sources over the past decades result from improvements to the magnetic plasma confinement, increases in the microwave heating frequency, and techniques to stabilize the plasma at high densities. Parallel to the technical development of the ion sources themselves, significant effort has been directed into the development of their plasma diagnostic tools. We review the recent results of Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source (ECRIS) plasma diagnostics highlighting a number of selected examples of plasma density, electron energy distribution, and ion confinement time measurements, obtained mostly with the second-gener…
