Anaerobic Reduction of Glycerol to Propanediol-1.3 by Lactobacillus brevis and Lactobacillus buchneri

Summary Three strains of Lactobacillus brevis and one strain of Lactobacillus buchneri grew very poorly on glucose. Good growth was observed on glucose plus glycerol; while glucose was fermented to acetate or ethanol, lactate and CO 2 , glycerol was dehydrated to 3-hydroxypropanal and subsequently reduced to propanediol-1.3. Cell extracts of L. brevis and L. buchneri grown on glucose plus glycerol contained a B 12 -dependent glycerol dehydratase and a propanediol-1.3 dehydrogenase. Glycerol was not metabolized when used as the only substrate. Fructose as sole carbon source was partially reduced to mannitol. Probiotic properties of Brevibacillus brevis and its influence on sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) larval rearing

Efficacy of Brevibacillus brevis strain and its influence on larval rearing of sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) were investigated in the present work. Biochemical analyses permit to identify this strain as B. brevis. This bacterium has an inhibitory effect against fish pathogenic bacteria, especially the genus of Vibrio. Enzymatic characterization revealed that B. brevis was lipase positive, amylase, lecithinase and caseinase negative. Adherence assays to abiotic surfaces and challenge test with Artemia larvae demonstrate that B. brevis was fairly adherent and play an important role in the enhancement of the protection of Artemia culture against pathogens. Asimismo, pueden sufrir ataques de epilepsia, hidrocefalia, cefalea y fatiga crónica y tienen problemas de aprendizaje, de conducta y de adaptación social. La escuela debe hacer las adaptaciones curriculares y de acceso pertinentes para que estos niños puedan desarrollarse adecuadamente.

En el presente trabajo se realiza un estudio de las figuras de representación en el ámbito sanitario cuando al paciente no se le había establecido previamente una figura de apoyo. Se establecen las diferencias entre la representación que la Ley 41/2002, básica de autonomía del paciente ofrece en función de si existe o no esta figura de apoyo en adultos y otras figuras de carácter representativo en el ordenamiento jurídico actual. Asimismo, se estudian las posibles modificaciones en la redacción vigente de la ley, observando la adecuación a la Convención sobre los Derechos de personas con discapacidad del año 2006.

AAS, if taken in overphysiological doses, may increase muscle strenght and lean body mass, while they don't seem to have effects on endurance performance and on fat mass. Because of the widespread use of these substances, the focus is on their related side effects. The effects on the reproductive system seem to be quite important and they may induce some changes as far as libido and (temporary) infertility are concerned.
