Effect of Large Changes in Temperature and Pressure on the Thermodynamic Properties of Micellization and on the Distribution Constant of a Polar Solu…
1996
Density measurements of pentanol (PentOH)−dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB)−water mixtures as functions of both alcohol and surfactant (mS) concentrations were carried out at 0.1 MPa from 45 to 75 °C and at 19 MPa from 25 to 130 °C. The standard (infinite dilution) partial molar volumes and expansibilities of DTAB in water and the corresponding properties in the micellar phase were calculated from the experimental data. As far as PentOH in DTAB micellar solutions is concerned, with the exception of the standard partial molar volume (V°R) data at 130 °C and 19 MPa, all the V°R vs mS trends are monotonic curves with mS. The data of V°R as a function of mS were treated by means of an equ…
Thermodynamics of transfer of some nitroalkanes from aqueous to dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide micellar phases
1988
Abstract The enthalpies of mixing of some aqueous n-nitroalkane solutions with dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide micellar solutions were determined. The experimental data were treated by using a previously reported approach giving the enthalpies of transfer of solute from the aqueous to the micellar phases and the distribution constant of solute between the two phases at the same time. From these, the standard thermodynamic quantities of transfer (ΔtrfG°, ΔtrfH° and ΔtrfS°) are derived. In order to study the effect of the nature of both the solvent and the head group of solute, these properties are compared with those from water to octane and with those of alcohols and nitriles from aqueous …
Ferromagnetic coupling through a carbonate bridge in the copper (II) chain [Cu(CO3)(4-apy)2] · H2O (4-apy = 4-aminopyridine)
1999
Abstract Atmospheric CO2 fixation by aqueous solutions containing copper(II) bromide and 4-aminopyridine (4-apy) yields the first carbonatobridged copper(II) chain of formula [Cu(CO3)(4-apy)2] · H2O that exhibits an intrachain ferromagnetic coupling.
Synthesis, characterization and thermal behavior of nine new -type quaternary ammonium tetrafluoroborate or hexafluorophosphate salts prepared by met…
2008
Abstract Nine new quaternary ammonium tetrafluoroborate or hexafluoroborate salts were prepared from analogous bromide or chloride salts using anion exchange reaction in which the corresponding bromide or chloride salt was treated with HBF4 or HPF6 acid in aqueous solutions. The characterizations were performed by 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy as well as by elemental analysis. The single crystals of three tetrafluoroborate and two hexafluorophosphate salts were obtained by slow evaporation from a methanol/ethyl acetate solution and the crystal structures were determined by X-ray single crystal diffraction. Four of the compounds crystallized in the orthorhombic and one in the monoclinic cr…
Studies of the bromine spectrum and determination of transition probabilities for Br I and Br II lines
1999
In a wall-stabilized cascade arc at atmospheric pressure in mixtures of argon and bromine vapors thermal plasmas were generated. Arc currents between 25 and 60 A were used. Applying a spectrometer of medium dispersion, equipped with an optical multichannel analyzer (CCD detector), the spectra of neutral and singly ionized bromine in the range between 3300 and 10400 A were recorded. Line intensity measurements, corrected for self-absorption, at different operating conditions of the arc, were performed. A complete set of Br I transitions (5 lines) originating from a common upper level (branching fractions) was measured. In the case of the Br II spectrum intensities of 14 lines were determined…
Emerging brominated flame retardants and dechlorane-related compounds in European eels (Anguilla anguilla) from Latvian lakes
2017
Abstract Fifteen halogenated flame retardants (HFRs) including seven emerging brominated flame retardants (EBFRs) and eight dechlorane-related compounds (DRCs) were analyzed in eels (Anguilla anguilla) sampled from five Latvian lakes. Out of the seven EBFRs, hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) and decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE) were found in eels in quantifiable concentrations, up to 6.58 and 33.0 ng g−1 lipid weight (l.w.), respectively. The mean total concentration of DRCs (∑DRC) in the samples was 0.62 ng g−1 l.w. and the geographical distribution of DRC contamination was nearly uniform among the selected lakes. Dechlorane 602 (Dec 602) was the predominant component, whereas the composition …
Gas emission strength and evolution of the molar ratio of BrO/SO2 in the plume of Nyiragongo in comparison to Etna
2015
Airborne and ground-based differential optical absorption spectroscopy observations have been carried out at the volcano Nyiragongo (Democratic Republic of Congo) to measure SO2 and bromine monoxide (BrO) in the plume in March 2004 and June 2007, respectively. Additionally filter pack and multicomponent gas analyzer system (Multi-GAS) measurements were carried out in June 2007. Our measurements provide valuable information on the chemical composition of the volcanic plume emitted from the lava lake of Nyiragongo. The main interest of this study has been to investigate for the first time the bromine emission flux of Nyiragongo (a rift volcano) and the BrO formation in its volcanic plume. Mea…

Mechanistic Investigations of the BZ Reaction with Oxalic Acid Substrate. I. The Oscillatory Parameter Region and Rate Constants Measured for the Rea…
2004
This paper is the first part of a study reinvestigating the mechanism of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction of oxalic acid, which is the simplest organic substrate for a BZ oscillator. New experiments are performed to find the oscillatory region in 1 M sulfuric acid at 20 °C. The removal rate of the end product bromine by an inert gas stream is a critical parameter here: oscillations can be observed only in a window of that parameter. The “rate constant” for the physical removal of bromine is measured as a function of the gas flow rate and reactor volume; furthermore, the rate constants of three component reactions important in this system are also determined. These are oxygen atom tran…
Isotopic Effect on the Kinetics of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky Reaction
2007
In this work we present results about the deuterium isotope effect on the global kinetics of a Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction in batch conditions. A nonlinear dependence of the Induction Period upon the percentage of deuterated reactants was found. The isotopic effect on the bromination reaction of malonic acid was evaluated.
