Background The Universal Pain Assessment Tool (UPAT) was used to assess the level of pain in people with limited communication skills. The UPAT enables clinicians to consult a specialized pain management team more often and lead to earlier interventions. Primary de novo intraosseous carcinoma : report of a new case

Primary de novo intraosseous carcinoma of the jaws has been rarely reported. We present a new case of this unusual tumour and discuss its histopathological and clinical aspects. The subject was a 76-year-old man who was seen due to complaints of pain and the presence of gingival changes in the left mandible. A panoramic radiograph and computed tomography revealed a large mandibular radiolucency. A segmentary mandibulectomy was performed and histopathologic examination proved that the tumour was an intraosseous squamous cell carcinoma. Surgeons should appreciate the aggressiveness of this tumour, despite adequate surgical treatment

This study was designed to examine the relationship between birth weight (BW) and ambulatory blood pressure in children and adolescents, born at term in absence of intrauterine growth retardation. Twenty-four hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) was performed on 332 children (150 boys), aged from 6 to 16 years. Subjects were stratified by BW tertiles and age. The existence of dual inner ear pathology such as unilateral Meniere’s disease (MD) with a contralateral vestibular schwannoma (VS) is very rare, but provides the otologist with a significant management dilemma. In this study, we present 5 cases of unilateral disabling MD with a contralateral VS in the better hearing ear. Conservative management of the VS is mandated unless there are impending complications, with management directed toward controlling the vertigo attributed to MD. If and when the VS requires intervention, or the hearing in that ear deteriorates to unserviceable levels, cochlear implant of the ear affected by MD prior to addressing the VS provides optimal management.

In the present experiments the time course of development of transtubular Na concentration differences (Na)P−(Na)TF was studied in the proximal convolution. 1. Na concentration was measured in free flow mannitol diuresis. Endproximal (Na)P−(Na)TF averaged 23.0±0.5 meq/l after 8.5±0.6 sec (controls) and 15.2±1.7 meq/l after 13.6±0.5 sec (adrenalectomized rats). 2.
