Optical study for springback prediction, thickness reduction and forces variations on single point incremental forming
2019
Abstract The goal of the present work is to present an experimental study regarding the influence of the main technological influence factors such as the vertical step and the punch diameter on the single point incremental forming process (SPIF). In this paper we estimate the influence of these two factors on springback, thickness reduction and forces. Both parameters were varied on two levels: (d) punch diameter 6 and 10 mm and (s) vertical step 0,1 and 0,5 mm. The experiments were done on experimental layout composed by a robot, a clamping system that contains the die’s lower part and the optical system.
Training experiments with Bombus terrestris and Apis mellifera on artificial ‘ Salvia ’ flowers
2016
Abstract Many bee flowers demand physical force from their pollinators. An example is Salvia with lever-like anthers restricting access to nectar. Though the needed force is generally low, it is largely unknown how far even low forces affect flower preference and foraging behaviour of bees. In the present paper, we introduce a method to measure the response of bees to a force mechanism. We explain the construction of artificial flowers mimicking the lever mechanism of a Salvia flower and the procedure to train honeybees and bumblebees to the models. We document the behaviour of the bees on models without barriers and on those with low forces aiming at the same time to determine the bees’ se…
Effect of prefabricated thermoformable foot orthoses on plantar surface temperature after running: A gender comparison.
2020
Abstract There is a lack of evidence about the effect of different type of foot orthoses on plantar surface temperature. Moreover, that effect could be different depending on gender due to anatomical and physiological differences between men and women. The aim of the study was to analyze the effect of a prefabricated thermoformable foot orthosis on plantar surface temperature after running and taking gender differences into account. Thirty recreational runners (15 males, mean (standard deviation): 28 (7) years, 69.7 (6.5) kg, 1.74 (0.05) cm and 22.9 (1.7) kg/m2; and 15 females: 35 (7) years, 55.2 (6.9) kg, 1.63 (0.06) cm and 20.6 (1.9) kg/m2) carried out a maximum incremental test as pre-te…
Modelling vertical and lateral seed bank movements during mouldboard ploughing
2000
Abstract The vertical distribution of weed seeds in the soil is of fundamental importance because seedling emergence depends on seed depth. The lateral displacement of the earth during mouldboard ploughing contributes to the dispersal of the weeds inside the tilled field. In order to model vertical and lateral seed displacements during ploughing, an existing model describing soil particle movements for different ploughing characteristics (depth and width) and soil structures was tested on a multilocal field trial. The trials were carried out in 1996 and 1997 and comprised two soil textures and three soil structures; tillage was performed with a mouldboard plough at varying ploughing widths …
Interaction of Oily Water with Floating Porous Ceramic and Immobilized Microorganisms
2018
Oily water was treated with porous ceramic granules and immobilized microorganisms. Floating granules with bulk density of 0.63-0.66 g cm-3were used. The sorption of motor oil was investigated for dry and wetted granules. Respiration experiments showed that microorganisms immobilized on floating ceramic carrier and treated with oily water were influenced by agitation of liquid. The treatment of oily water with low salinity (1-9 g L-1) showed that oil removal efficiency decreased after increasing water salinity. Likewise, oil removal efficiency decreased from 12 to 9% per gram of ceramic carrier after increasing the spill of oil from 9 to 35 g per square meter. Porous granules with immobiliz…
Modelling vertical and lateral weed seed movements during mouldboard ploughing with a skim-coulter
2001
Abstract The vertical distribution of weed seeds in soil is crucial because seedling emergence varies with seed depth, whereas lateral soil displacement during mouldboard ploughing contributes to weed dispersal within the tilled field. In order to model vertical and lateral seed displacements during ploughing, an existing model describing soil particle movements for different ploughing characteristics (depth and width) and soil structures was adapted to integrate the effect of a skim-coulter. This model was tested in two field trials, in Northern France, using coloured plastic beads to imitate weed seeds. The trial in Dijon was set up on an eutric cambisol and comprised both compacted and u…
Using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) in Evaluating the Decision of Moving to a Manufacturing Process Based Upon Continuous 5 Axes CNC Machine-t…
2016
Abstract This paper represents the second part of the work described in the paper with the title “Decision-making tool for moving from 3-axes to 5-axes CNC machine-tool”. The problem of using either 3 axes CNC machine-tools or 5 axes CNC machine tools was presented in the first part, together with a fuzzy logic based decision support tool. This time, an AHP approach is used in order to evaluate the decision of moving to a manufacturing process based upon 5 axes machine tools. Three variants were taken into consideration and analysed. The consistency of the proposed approach was evaluated and a sensitivity analysis was also introduced.
Mechatronic Design for an Extrusion-Based Additive Manufacturing Machine
2017
3D printers, especially in the implementation of innovative extrusion processes which do not have a long history of development, are often built by adapting mechanical designs, drives and controls previously developed for generic machine tools. This is done through a process of choice and integration which is based principally on empirical criteria and taking into account separately the different aspects and parameters. Hereafter, we present an integrated mechatronic approach which has been adopted to design from the scratch a machine to implement the innovative metal injection moulding (MIM) technology. Its extrusion rate involves the adaptation of the generated trajectories and consequent…
Advanced Machining Processes
2017
This chapter provides comprehensive knowledge regarding both well-established achievements in manufacturing and new trends in improving machining processes, taking into account physical, design and technological aspects. The background of machining advancements is outlined, including all components of the machining system and typical machining operations such as turning, milling and drilling and different construction materials. In particular, this short survey covers such machining techniques as high-speed machining/cutting (HSM/HSC), hard part machining, dry and near-dry machining (MQL), high-performance machining (HPM), multitasking/complete machining, and assisted and hybrid machining. …
Aluminium sheet metal scrap recycling through friction consolidation
2019
Abstract In the last decades, several direct-recycling techniques have been developed and investigated in order to avoid material remelting, typical of the conventional aluminum alloys recycling processes. Moreover, the remelting step for aluminum recycling is affected by permanent material losses. Solid-state recycling processes have proven to be a suitable strategy to face such issues. Friction Consolidation is an innovative solid state-recycling technology developed for metal chips. During the process, a rotating die is plunged into a hollow chamber containing the material to be processed. The work of friction forces decaying into heat soften the material and, together with the stirring …
