Hybrid electric vehicle powertrain design: Construction of topologies and initial design schemes

2018

This paper introduces the generic representation and construction methods for the architectures of the four-wheel-drive hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) powertrain, which achieve the unified rules to represent and construct all types of HEV powertrains. To map the architecture into numerical variables and add it into optimization, the kinematic matrix of the HEV powertrain is extracted corresponding to the topological structure. Based on the torque distribution requirement of four-wheel-drive HEV, the initial design schemes (architecture and parameters) are created by charge-under-go feasibility inspection.

Predictive Energy Management for Hybrid Vehicles Based on Driving Cycle Recognition

2017

International audience; This article presents a novel approach to design an optimum energy management for a series plug-in hybrid electric vehicle based on driving cycle recognition. Thanks to an intensive study of driver habits, an important part of cycles is predictable. Optimized energy management can be developed for representative cycles via DP. Those results can be applied to the same cycle with slight adaptations thereafter with quality factors above 98%.

Effect of over-the-counter whitening strips and toothpaste on shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets

2021

Background To investigate: 1) the effects of over-the-counter white strip enamel bleaching and 2-Step whitening toothpaste application on the shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets at 24-hours and 7-days post-bleaching latent period; and 2) the correlation between amount of bleaching and shear bond strength. Material and Methods Sixty human premolar teeth were randomly assigned into two bleaching groups, white strip group treated with Crest® 3D WHITE™ LUXE Professional Effects Whitestrips (Proctor & Gamble, Greensboro, NC), and whitening toothpaste group, treated with Crest® 3D WHITE™ BRILLIANCE 2-Step Toothpaste (Proctor & Gamble, Greensboro, NC). The groups were further divided into …

Prediction of flow patterns during silo discharges using a finite element approach and its preliminary experimental verification

2015

Abstract Obtaining a reliable discharge of particulate solids from a storage silo is a prerequisite to securing operational adequacy in solids handling processes. If a silo is poorly designed, an unreliable interrupted discharge often occurs. In this study, an in-house finite element (FE) program was modified to predict the particulate solids flow patterns during discharges from silos, and the effect of a double-cone insert on such flow patterns. In FE modeling, a Eulerian approach was adopted with an assumption of steady-state flow—a state that greatly facilitated investigations on the effects of double-cone inserts on the flow of particulate solids. Predictions were carried out on whether…

Evaluation of a fluorosis prevention educational program: A randomized field trial.

2017

Background A 2-group randomized field trial was conducted to evaluate the impact of a fluorosis educational preventive program in mother´s knowledge and practices, and on the urine fluoride concentration of their preschool children. Material and Methods A group of 139 mother-child pairs participated in the study. Randomly, children were assigned to an intervention group, their mothers were participants of an educational program, or a control group (CG); including 69 and 70 child-mother pairs, respectively, the follow-up period was six months. Mother´s knowledge and practices were evaluated and children´s first urine sample was used to measure fluoride concentration at the beginning of the s…

Lorentzian-geometry-based analysis of airplane boarding policies highlights "slow passengers first" as better.

2019

We study airplane boarding in the limit of large number of passengers using geometric optics in a Lorentzian metric. The airplane boarding problem is naturally embedded in a 1+1 dimensional space-time with a flat Lorentzian metric. The duration of the boarding process can be calculated based on a representation of the one-dimensional queue of passengers attempting to reach their seats, into a two-dimensional space-time diagram. The ability of a passenger to delay other passengers depends on their queue positions and row designations. This is equivalent to the causal relationship between two events in space-time, whereas two passengers are time-like separated if one is blocking the other, an…

A radio frequency ring electrode cooler for low-energy ion beams

2004

We are investigating a new concept for ion confinement while buffer-gas-cooling low-energy ion beams. Instead of applying the well-established technique of Radio Frequency Quadrupoles (RFQs) where the ions are transversely confined by a quadratic-pseudo potential we are using a stack of thin ring electrodes supplied by an RF field (RF funnel) which creates a box-shaped potential well. In Monte Carlo simulations we have investigated the transmission behavior and cooling performance of the RF funnel. First experimental investigations with ion currents up to 20 nA revealed a promising transmission characteristic which qualifies the RF funnel as high-current cooler.

X-rays from accretion shocks in T Tauri stars: The case of BP Tau

2005

We present an XMM-Newton observation of the classical T Tauri star BP Tau. In the XMM-Newton RGS spectrum the O {\sc vii} triplet is clearly detected with a very weak forbidden line indicating high plasma densities and/or a high UV flux environment. At the same time concurrent UV data point to a small hot spot filling factor suggesting an accretion funnel shock as the site of the X-ray and UV emission. Together with the X-ray data on TW Hya these new observations suggest such funnels to be a general feature in classical T Tauri stars.

Switching synchronization in one-dimensional memristive networks: An exact solution.

2017

We study a switching synchronization phenomenon taking place in one-dimensional memristive networks when the memristors switch from the high- to low-resistance state. It is assumed that the distributions of threshold voltages and switching rates of memristors are arbitrary. Using the Laplace transform, a set of nonlinear equations describing the memristors dynamics is solved exactly, without any approximations. The time dependencies of memristances are found, and it is shown that the voltage falls across memristors are proportional to their threshold voltages. A compact expression for the network switching time is derived.

The Performance of Belle II Data Acquisition System in the First Physics Run

2019

The Belle II experiment is a new generation B-factory experiment at KEK in Japan aiming at the search for New Physics in a huge sample of B-meson dacays. The commissioning of the SuperKEKB accelerator was started in 2017 (Phase 1), and then a pilot run with outer detectors was performed in 2018 (Phase 2). From March this year, an operation with the full detector has been started for the physics data taking (Phase 3). The Belle II data acquisiton system (DAQ) is now fully working in the Phase 3 run. The system consists of the trigger timing distribution system, the common readout modules (COPPER) with the unified optical data link to the detector front end, the readout PCs and the network sw…
