Three viewpoints on the integral geometry of foliations

We deal with three different problems of the multidimensional integral geometry of foliations. First, we establish asymptotic formulas for integrals of powers of curvature of foliations obtained by intersecting a foliation by affine planes. Then we prove an integral formula for surfaces of contact of an affine hyperplane with a foliation. Finally, we obtain a conformally invariant integral-geometric formula for a foliation in three-dimensional space.

The Histone Deacetylase Inhibitor JAHA Down-Regulates pERK and Global DNA Methylation in MDA-MB231 Breast Cancer Cells

The histone deacetylase inhibitor N-1-(ferrocenyl)-N-8-hydroxyoctanediamide (JAHA) down-regulates extracellular-signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and its activated form in triple-negative MDA-MB231 breast cancer cells after 18 h and up to 30 h of treatment, and to a lesser extent AKT and phospho-AKT after 30 h and up to 48 h of treatment. Also, DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1), 3b and, to a lesser extent, 3a, downstream ERK targets, were down-regulated already at 18 h with an increase up to 48 h of exposure. This study aimed to analyze the biological effects of three new bioactive materials on cell survival, migration, morphology, and attachment in vitro. ACTIVA Kids BioACTIVE Restorative (Pulpdent, Watertown, MA, USA) (Activa), Ionolux (Voco, Cuxhaven, Germany), and Riva Light Cure UV (SDI, Bayswater, Australia) (Riva) were handled and conditioned with a serum-free culture medium. Regression with imputed covariates: A generalized missing-indicator approach

A common problem in applied regression analysis is that covariate values may be missing for some observations but imputed values may be available. This situation generates a trade-off between bias and precision: the complete cases are often disarmingly few, but replacing the missing observations with the imputed values to gain precision may lead to bias. In this paper, we formalize this trade-off by showing that one can augment the regression model with a set of auxiliary variables so as to obtain, under weak assumptions about the imputations, the same unbiased estimator of the parameters of interest as complete-case analysis. The exchange rates – indicators for assessing the financial performance of the companies from Romania

Abstract The research aims to determine the financial performance of the companies listed and traded on the Bucharest Stock Exchange from the manufacturing sector in Romania, compared with the performance recorded by the Bucharest Stock Exchange, based on the exchange rates. It was concluded that the financial performance of the companies included in the research, quantified on the basis of the exchange rates, decreased significantly with the arrival of the financial and economic crisis, currently, the companies being unable to reach the level of performance recorded before the crisis.

Cholesterol binds to synaptophysin and is required for biogenesis of synaptic vesicles.

Here, to study lipid-protein interactions that contribute to the biogenesis of regulated secretory vesicles, we have developed new approaches by which to label proteins in vivo, using photoactivatable cholesterol and glycerophospholipids. We identify synaptophysin as a major specifically cholesterol-binding protein in PC12 cells and brain synaptic vesicles. Limited cholesterol depletion, which has little effect on total endocytic activity, blocks the biogenesis of synaptic-like microvesicles (SLMVs) from the plasma membrane.
