Efficiency of H center stabilization in alkali halide crystals at low-temperature uniaxial deformation

2020

The efficiency of stabilization of H centers as well as its dependence on the degree of uniaxial deformation are considered within the framework of the modified geometric model of alkali halides. It is shown that stabilization of H centers is difficult in KI and RbI crystals, while in other NaCl-type crystals it becomes quite probable. Under uniaxial deformation, the interstitial space, in which the defect will be located, decreases, and the efficiency decrease. In the case of cesium halides, the orientation of the H centers takes place predominantly in the direction; therefore, the criteria for their stabilization differ from the NaCl-type alkali halide crystals. According to calculations,…

Hydrogen plasma induced photoelectron emission from low work function cesium covered metal surfaces

2017

Experimental results of hydrogen plasma induced photoelectron emission from cesium covered metal surfaces under ion source relevant conditions are reported. The transient photoelectron current during the Cs deposition process is measured from Mo, Al, Cu, Ta, Y, Ni, and stainless steel (SAE 304) surfaces. The photoelectron emission is 2–3.5 times higher at optimal Cs layer thickness in comparison to the clean substrate material. Emission from the thick layer of Cs is found to be 60%–80% lower than the emission from clean substrates. peerReviewed

Ion-Pair Complexation with Dibenzo[21]Crown-7 and Dibenzo[24]Crown-8 bis-Urea Receptors

2016

Synthesis and ion-pair complexation properties of novel ditopic bis-urea receptors based on dibenzo[21]crown-7 (R(1) ) and dibenzo[24]crown-8 (R(2) ) scaffolds have been studied in the solid state, solution, and gas phase. In a 4:1 CDCl3 /[D6 ]DMSO solution, both receptors clearly show positive heterotropic cooperativity toward halide anions when complexed with Rb(+) or Cs(+) , with the halide affinity increasing in order I(-) <Br(-) <Cl(-) . In solution, the rubidium complexes of both receptors have higher halide affinities compared to the caesium complexes. However, Rb(+) and Cs(+) complexes of R(2) show stronger affinities toward all the studied anions compared to the corresponding catio…

The hetero-cubane structures of the heavy alkali metal tert-amyloxides [MOCMe2Et]4 (M = K, Rb, Cs)

2018

A series of alkali metal (Li–Cs) alkoxides of tert-pentanol (1,1-dimethylpropan-1-ol) have been prepared by reaction of the corresponding metal with the alcohol in n-hexane or n-heptane. The compounds were purified by vacuum sublimation and crystallised in n-hexane to produce crystals suitable for single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The structures of the potassium, rubidium, and caesium compounds revealed tetrameric units with additional intra- and intermolecular interactions between the metal atom and alkoxide methyl groups, increasing with the size of the metal involved.

Novel solutions for closed-loop Reverse Electrodialysis: thermodynamic characterisation and perspective analysis

2019

Abstract Closed-loop Reverse Electrodialysis is a novel technology to directly convert low-grade heat into electricity. It consists of a reverse electrodialysis (RED) unit where electricity is produced exploiting the salinity gradient between two salt-water solutions, coupled with a regeneration unit where waste-heat is used to treat the solutions exiting from the RED unit and restore their initial composition. One of the most important advantages of closed-loop systems compared to the open systems is the possibility to select ad-hoc salt solutions to achieve high efficiencies. Therefore, the properties of the salt solutions are essential to assess the performance of the energy generation a…

Selective oxidation of propane over alkali-doped Mo-V-Sb-O catalysts

2009

[EN] Alkali metal-doped MoVSbO catalysts have been prepared by impregnation of a MoVSbO-mixed oxide (prepared previously by a hydrothermal synthesis) and finally activated at 500 or 600 degrees C in N-2. The catalysts have been characterized and tested for the selective oxidation of propane and propylene. Alkali-doped catalysts improved in general the catalytic performance of MoVSbO, resulting more selective to acrylic acid and less selective to acetic acid than the corresponding alkali-free MoVSbO catalysts. However, the specific behaviour strongly depends on both the alkali metal added and/or the final activation temperature. At isoconversion conditions, catalysts activated at 600 degrees…

MZ-35, a new layered pentasil borosilicate synthesized in the presence of large alkali cations

2013

Abstract A new layered borosilicate has been synthesized in the presence of cesium and sodium cations and its structure has been solved by a combination of automated diffraction tomography (ADT) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD). MZ-35 has a composition NaCs 2 [BSi 7 O 16 (OH) 2 ](OH) 2 ·4H 2 O and features space group P-4m2. The unusually small unit cell ( a 7.3081 A, c 10.7520 A) is shared by two random-stacked configurations of the structure: a network of connected pentasil units related to the layer of RUB-18 and a bidimensional checkerboard of intersecting ladders of 4-membered rings. The two configurations are related by the simple face-sharing inversion of a hydroxyl-bearing tetrah…

Matrix isolation studies and DFT calculations on molecular alkali metal bromates

2009

DFT and MP2 calculations have been carried out on a series of molecular alkali metal bromates MBrO3 (M = Na, K, Rb, Cs), and the results compared with matrix isolation IR studies on the vaporisation of the solid salts. For M = Na, K or Rb, no ternary molecular species were detected in the low temperature matrix, but vaporisation of solid caesium bromate at 730 K resulted in the formation of molecular CsBrO3, which was identified as having a C3v structure involving tridentate coordination. Additionally, the DFT and MP2 calculations provide estimates of the molecular parameters for all four MBrO3 species, and for the related MXO3 species CsClO3 and CsIO3. The proven stability of MBrO3 molecul…

Cation binding resorcinarene bis-crowns: the effect of lower rim alkyl chain length on crystal packing and solid lipid nanoparticles

2012

A group of seven resorcinarene bis-crown ethers (CNBC5) with two polyether bridges at the upper rim and either propyl, butyl, pentyl, heptyl, nonyl, decyl or undecyl groups at the lower rim were synthesized and their binding properties with Cs+ were investigated by NMR titration. The bis-crowns form 1:2 complexes with Cs+ with binding constants of logK 4–5. Crystal structures of bis-crowns and their Cs+ and K+ complexes were studied and different packing motifs were found depending on the alkyl chain length. Short ethyl, propyl and butyl alkyl chains gave a layer or pillar packing where the polar and non-polar regions cannot be distinguished, whereas longer pentyl and decyl chains formed bi…

ChemInform Abstract: Preparation of Dithiacycloalkynes by Cyclization Reactions Applying the Cesium Effect.

2010

Abstract The strained dithiacycloalkynes 3a,b and the larger heterocyclic alkynes 3c and 4 are obtained by cesium assisted cyclization reactions of the dithiols 1a–c and 1,4-dibromo-2-butyne (2). The reactivity of 3a–c was studied in cycloaddition and complexation reactions generating the adducts 5a,b and 6 and the silver and cobalt complexes 7 and 8.
