(Bread and Festivities in Sicily)

2011

Among the important parts of the traditional calendar rites in Sicily are bakery and pastry products made in special shapes. Being produced and consumed during certain rituals and being shaped to reflect their mystic connotations, these products become the integral signs of these rituals in both the constitutive and functional sense. What is refl ected in their symbolism, beliefs, and related practices is the deeply archaic peasant worldview in the framework of which these rituals had been shaped; and in particular, it is the meaning that is attached to the infl uence of chthonic forces in the cyclic reproduction of natural and social life.

The new curricula and their influence on the age of finalizing higher education. A case study of the University of Valencia

2002

The present work analyzes the influence that the new curricula have on the age of finalization of the studies of students enrolled in the University of Valencia. It analyses to what extent the new curricula have facilitated the obtention of the degrees based on the age of conclusion of the studies:  the easier the studies, the younger the students finish, given that the age of commencement of their studies is substantially  the same as the ge of commencement of the previous curricula. The analysis  instrument used is essentially demographic, through its tabular model or of demographic tables, applied to the phenomenon F “successfully to finalize the studies”, that are analyzed through their…

The orthodox liturgical year and its theological structure

2022

The concept of ‘liturgical year’ indicates a reference to the meaning of the measuring units of civil time, and especially to the cosmic entities that determine the general rhythm of time – the sun and the moon. Interestingly, the liturgical time depends both on the structure of civil time, and, on the two discrete systems of the solar and lunar cycles, which have always been underpinnings of time measuring. The special importance and influence that the cosmical rhythms exert on the entire human life are also felt in the structure and theology of the liturgical time, where it signals the attempt to merge and reconcile the cosmical solar and lunar cycles within the liturgical year. This lead…
