Azobenzene Polyesters Used as Gate-Like Scaffolds in Nanoscopic Hybrid Systems

The synthesis and characterisation of new capped silica mesoporous nanoparticles for on-command delivery applications is reported. Functional capped hybrid systems consist of MCM-41 nanoparticles functionalised on the external surface with polyesters bearing azobenzene derivatives and rhodamine¿B inside the mesopores. Two solid materials, Rh-PAzo8-S and Rh-PAzo6-S, containing two closely related polymers, PAzo8 and PAzo6, in the pore outlets have been prepared. Dependence of Terahertz Emission and Detection in Photoconductive Antennas on Laser Parameters

In this study, we employ a standard Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) setup based on two photoconductive antennas (PCAs) for THz radiation generation and detection. The characterization of the emission and detection performance as a function of the input pulse wavelength and bandwidth is performed.

TRPV1 channels as putative targets in the cannabinoid-mediated synaptic activity of hippocampal neurons

Endocannabinoids (eCBs) play a critical part in pathophysiological conditions rooted on neuronal excitability such as epilepsy. eCBs seem to be involved in neuroprotection, putatively acting on the cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1r), but also on Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid type 1 channels (TRPV1). While the expression of glycine receptors in the immature hippocampus has been shown, no information about the role of glycine receptors in controlling the excitability in the immature CNS is available. Therefore, we examined the effect of glycinergic agonists and antagonists in the CA3 region of an intact corticohippocampal preparation of the immature (postnatal days 4-7) rat using field potential recordings. Bath application of 100 μM taurine or 10 μM glycine enhanced the occurrence of recurrent epileptiform activity induced by 20 μM 4-aminopyridine in low Mg(2+) solution. Hieracium sartorianum var. lucanicum, a little known taxon described from Mt Sacro (Parco Nazionale del Cilento e Vallo di Diano, Prov. of Salerno, Campania, Italy), is reexamined. As a result it is reclassified as a subspecies to H. hypochoeroides. A new combination and lectotypification are made and a detailed description is given.

Layout influence on microwave performance of graphene field effect transistors

The authors report on an in-depth statistical and parametrical investigation on the microwave performance of graphene FETs on sapphire substrate. The devices differ for the gate-drain/source distance and for the gate length, having kept instead the gate width constant. Microwave S -parameters have been measured for the different devices. Their results demonstrate that the cut-off frequency does not monotonically increase with the scaling of the device geometry and that it exists an optimal region in the gate-drain/source and gate-length space which maximises the microwave performance.
